Garmin Connect - Is this product EVER going to function correctly?

I've been patient for days waiting for this product to work properly. I'm beginning to think it will never perform. I'm on a weight loss journey and this is becoming hugely discouraging. I'm preparing to pack it up and return it for a refund.
  • I find that if you keep your PC on most of the time, syncing with the ANT stick should be very reliable. Make sure you have the latest Express and that Express shows the vivofit as a configured device and that the vivofit is paired to the ant stick.

Instead of syncing with the sync button on the vivofit, try syncing with the button in Express.
  • Connect is down and is not showing my synced data even though the Connect "Status" app says that it's working. It's not!

No issues with my lunchtime run today, it was on GC by the time I got back to my desk from the locker room across the plaza.
Since you said it was down, I figured I'd check again. I just brought up Garmin Connect, shows it last synced activity data a little while ago (I haven't done anything but putter around the the house).

Why do you suppose it isn't working for you but it's fine here?

    (I'm using a 920xt)

EDIT: after posting, I walked to the kitchen, picked up my phone and opened the Garmin app. In a few seconds it'd synced the 920xt via bluetooth. Came back to the computer, refreshed Garmin Connect and it'd already posted the updated step count and showed an 8:55pm "last sync" field.

No idea what's going on with your setup, but everything's working fine here right now. (I don't use MFP so can't speak to that, looks like still shows an issue on the status page. Tapiriik had no issues pulling my run earlier today to write it to Strava and Dropbox)

Yes. Used ANT stick with Garmin 610 since 2011. Pretty solid, though once the watch and ANT agent got kind of confused and it was constantly re-syncing. An uninstall/reinstall plus a watch reset cleared whatever corrupt activity file was causing the issue. Otherwise I've left the stick in my home computer and it's been pretty transparent.
  • I got to say something is still very broken.

*You've earned -879 extra kilojoules from exercise today
great walked lots did an hour of weights and again Garmin thinks that means I need to eat less food to maintain my weight. How long till this ridiculous adjustment failure is fixed...
I've been losing kilojoules for exercising every day since the 6th.

I am beginning to think there may be better products out there for me to use to track my activities and measure my input/ouput.

Yeah patience and an ability to look at the big picture very important for weight loss.

But MFP is all about numbers and a certain level of OCD-ness is required to get the most of it. As such these constant issues with step trackers are incredibly annoying ;-) Especially when the step trackers cost a fair amount of money to boot!

I sense the whole area is in its infancy tech wise and it's all going to explode into the mainstream. Garmin do not want to push people towards for example the likes of Apple who will get into this in the next couple of years no question.

    That's somewhat belittling, isn't it?

I just bought mine and they are very close to pushing me to the new FitBit. Very close.

I am so tempted to return my vivofit and wait until the new Fitbit with HRM on it comes out.

    How so?

Weight loss journeys usually come with setbacks, plateaus, and unmet expectations. Those who can overlook these temporary challenges and keep their eye on the goal are typically more successful than those who can't.

How is it in any way belittling to encourage people to look at the big picture and not focus on the little stuff?

I am with you on this. I received one for Christmas and now can not get the watch to sync data. It did for about 4 days and stopped working. I am totally frustrated with this product. I also got one for a family member, because for the few days it was working it was great. When I went to set the other watch up I could never get it to work. I spoke with Garmin and they could not fix it either. They had no idea why a brand new watch would not pair. I took the second watch back got a new one and could not get that one to work either. Then mine stopped working and I have not been able to use mine. Mine is going to have to go back to. I am so disappointed, because I liked the whole product better than the fitbit, but since I can not sync data, the watch is totally useless

I have a forerunner 310XT with a MacBook Pro and have not been able to upload/sync anything since January 6th. Yes, I have internet, yes I'm even relative smart when it comes to technology. Garmin is not. Why can't they just roll back the changes that were installed prior to January 6th? I am continually getting the "our server is not available, we are aware and working on it".. that is fine. Just tell us when it will be fixed. COMMUNICATION!

I have not had any problem syncing a vivofit or Fr15 for days, and even then it was an outage that only lasted a couple hours. When you started having problems, did you change something? Delete/reinstall the SW, change settings, etc? It could be when you first saw the server was unavailable, something got broke on your end, and is still broke?
