I've been patient for days waiting for this product to work properly. I'm beginning to think it will never perform. I'm on a weight loss journey and this is becoming hugely discouraging. I'm preparing to pack it up and return it for a refund.

What part isn't working for you? Things seem fine to me. What product (hardware) are you using?
As you just joined, could it be that you're still learning about how it should work, how to set things up, and what data is available?
For me syncing steps and sleep doesn't work. Also some custom activities fail to sync. I can upload the .fit files to Strava - no issues - so the files must be all right. Also the fit file repair tool doesn't find any issues. Only Garmin Connect won't accept them. Using 920XT. Everything was working fine until December 27. This is when I started using the custom activity and Garmin Connect started to act funny. I contacted Garmin support but they just told me that everything should be working although it clearly isn't. I am getting angry.
Garmin's been having some issues the past few days. It is certainly quite frustrating, and I imagine even more so for anyone new to the platform.
I've been using Garmin Connect since mid 2011 and it's generally been very solid. What we're seeing recently is an anomaly relative to the previous three and a half years in my experience. (not saying its been 100% perfect, just that this is not normal)
(and having been on a weight loss journey myself, I'd emphasize that patience and the ability to surpass setbacks/frustrations are traits that one needs to develop to be successful)
Yeah patience and an ability to look at the big picture very important for weight loss.
But MFP is all about numbers and a certain level of OCD-ness is required to get the most of it. As such these constant issues with step trackers are incredibly annoying ;-) Especially when the step trackers cost a fair amount of money to boot!
I sense the whole area is in its infancy tech wise and it's all going to explode into the mainstream. Garmin do not want to push people towards for example the likes of Apple who will get into this in the next couple of years no question.
Patience? It's Garmin that is taking advantage of advantage of our patience. Plenty of thought has gone into an app to update users on the pass/fail status of the Connect application. I don't really care about the details, when a resolution is what we need. The update app current shows even more failures than yesterday. It's been days and as of right now the Connect site is even further broken than it was for the last two weeks. None of the "widgets" are working. The Connect site has not been having a problem for the last few days. The site has had problems for a lot longer. Often one thing gets fixed and something else breaks. Many of the sync issues are related to Garmin's servers and not to the hardware. I pity the owners who are trying everything to get their devices to work when the real issue resides at a server and the solution is beyond their control. I'm perplexed that Garmin still can't get Connect to work.
