User defined personal records?

Is there a way to define additional personal records in Garmin Connect? For cycling, for instance, the only distance-related PR is 40km, and as most of my regular rides are 10-15 miles long, I'd love a 10 miles PR and 20 km. Can I configure that somewhere, or is it "just tough luck"?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Tomas
  • There's a personal record for "Longest Ride", regardless of length.

    Would this not work?

Thanks for the idea, but not really, as that just tells me how long my longest ride ever was. What I want to do is to be aware of when I cycle faster than ever before over the distances I tend to ride.

With running, for instance, there are PRs for 1km, 1m, 5km, 10km, HM, M. That probably covers most runners, although I'm sure there are some ultra marathon runners out there who'd like to be able to track their PR for 100km or 100miles.

For cycling there is one, which is 40 km.

So I'm hoping that there is a configuration bit somewhere where I can simply add additional distances to the existing list. I may be out of luck, but thought it would be worth asking the question.

If you set up segments for your rides, I believe you'll be able to see your times for that segment. At least that's how it works for running segments.

That sounds like a way forward. Thank you! Am I right in thinking that this will only work if it's the exact same route each time? (still far better than nothing)

There can be difference such as which side of the road, for example, but yes, it's basically the same route. You can however divide an activity is to multiple segments, as well as one large segment.

Upload your gpx file to Endomondo and although you can't configure your best times, it does give 1 mile 10km, 20km etc loads and loads. I do that, it will also put in your feed if you have beat one.

Or you could try Veloviewer, that you can find your best 10km (user defined) per ride, although it doesnt remember the best and update like endomondo does.

Great, that makes sense. Thank you very much for the idea, I will do that.

That's a good point, and I am actually sampling Endomondo at the moment. I was just (naively?) hoping that I could make do with just a single app, and I'm underwhelmed by how Endomondo handles swimming, so that's a reason to prefer GC. But maybe I just have to accept that if I want all the bells and whistles, then I'll need different apps for different things.

Thanks for the tip about Veloviewer. Never heard about it, but I will look it up and give it a go.
  • 40 km personal recod

I hope Garmin reads this and will give an option to customize and have not only 40 km option

    Garmin Ideas

According to Garmin, you can post user defined personal records in Garmin Ideas, where developers will take note.
