Garmin Connect Device Settings does not work

I've just purchased a new Vivosmart in Hong Kong. It is a Chinese model, but I was told in the store that the language was an option that can be changed.
It appears from the manual that the way to change this is through Garmin Connect -> Device Settings, but when I click on Device Settings (the the Dashboard or Menu) I just get a blank screen.

I've tried this on Firefox and Chrome on Mac and on IE on Windows 8.1 and all have failed.

Is this a known bug in Garmin Connect, is there any workaround?

Exact same problem in Texas, USA.
  • Same here in UK. I have been unable access my Vivofit device settings for over a week now

Device settings doesn't seem to be working on the Garmin Connect site, but it seems to be working on the mobile app. It's the only place I can even access the settings options since the last software update. Have you tried it from there? The language setting is found under the Time, Date, System option. :)

Good, but not good ... that is, good that I'm not alone and that so many others are having the same issue of not being able to access Device Settings on Garmin Connect for their Vivosmart sport bands ... not so good that we're all having this problem and Garmin isn't fixing it very quickly. How frustrating is that? Garmin seems to be having plenty of problems lately that they can't resolve. I also have an issue with my Garmin GPS (Nuvi 1490). I keep getting a message telling me I need to update my FM Traffic Provider database. I have updated this several times now, using the WebUpdater, but this message won't go away and it therefore renders my GPS useless unless I disconnect the FM traffic receiver, which unfortunately doubles as my power cord. So my GPS will work for a while, until the battery dies. Sorry for commenting on an unrelated issue, but it just seems like its symptomatic of some common software/system issues at Garmin. I just hope they get these issues fixed soon. I also have a Garmin Forerunner GPS watch for running. So far it's still working ok...knock on wood.

Hi Angela1983, I'm afraid my mobile app doesn't have language under 'Time, Date, System' - just time format, date format and units.

Ah - Device Settings on Garmin Connect is now working! That's the good news - the bad news is that changing the language does not appear to be an option

It looks like I have been sold a pup. As I purchased in Hong Kong and I live in the UK returning the Vivosmart is not an easy option. Does anybody know if the language can be changed?

Come back Fitbit - all is forgiven (just wish I hadn't lost it in that Hong Kong taxi!).

I'd just like to add that the manual does say that setting the language is an option, and should appear between 'Time Format' and 'Units' on Garmin Connect -> Device Settings.

Not feeling very impressed at the moment

That's very strange darkenergy66. I just checked on both my mobile app and computer and the language setting is there. I changed my language to French to see if it's actually working and it is. Maybe try re-installing the app. Hopefully something works for you.

Thanks for that info Angela1983. It sounds like the Chinese version is permanently Chinese then - the guy in the store got it wrong - or lied!

No quite the deal I thought I had.

I have just bought a Vivosmart and I am finding that any changes I make in the Connect iOS app are not reflected back to the band.

It doesn't seem to save them in the app.

Let's say I change time format from 12 to 24 hour. I save that setting and then I Exit device settings. I get a message saying the device will be updated next time it connects.

I if then return to device settings, any changes I have made are lost and are not reflected to the band.

My iOS app version is 3.30 and my Garmin Connect version is 2.12.2

I have tried uninstalling the app and re-pairing. Is there any way to reset the band back to factory settings so I can start again? Or anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work - it's pretty useless if it doesn't work the way I want it to.
