Garmin Connect Inferior to FitBit App

I bought a Vivosmart as a replacement to my FitBit Force earlier this fall. While the device is great and offers much more than the Force did. The Mobile and Web interface are inferior products.
I'm going to leave the MFP issues aside because who knows who's to blame with the synch failures.
I didn't have near the number of device synch issues that I am having with the Vivosmart.
Four times in the past 2 weeks I've had to delete the app and re-install to make it work.
Also, FitBit allowed me to create a workout much easier than in Garmin. And it had functionality that kept the device from double counting step and calories burn.
This is something that would be great in Garmin Connect.
FitBit also had an internal calorie/food diary. While many people are loyal to MFP, an internal calorie / food diary eliminates moving parts and keeps everything in the same universe.

Last night, I DL'd the new Under Armour Record app, The functionality relies on a connection to Garmin Connect but the navigation looks similiar to MFP.
  • I find GC FAR superior to Fitbit. The difference is that GC is more complex (and much more customization as a result). There are a number of things I can do in GC that weren't even thought of with Fb. The report widget itself allows more than the entire FB site, IMHO.

Also, I have FAR more faith in the data I see on GC than I did with FB.

To each his own, I guess. You could give me a FB for free, and I'd stick with Garmin.

BTW, did you look at Personal Records and Goal with GC?

I am also a former fit bit user and I loved it. Until I got the rash that has just nicely cleared up when I bought the garmin vivofit. I am not to worried about the syncing issues it has currently these things happen and coming here I see I am not the only one. However I have been using sparkpeople, and walker tracker since 2007 and it works great with fit bit, syncs up, no need to check or manually put in my steps, and then argus app too that I downloaded last year, same thing automatically updates and posts my steps. Garmin does none of this.. maybe I am lazy but having to log in to sparkpeople and manually convert my steps to calories burned and logging into walker tracker and manually enter my steps, and argus doesn't even have a place to manually enter steps.. this all happened automatically with fit bit.. how come Garmin is so great in many ways but so limited in others??
  • I am also a former Fitbit user who has been using the Vivosmart since it released. I absolutely love the band but will be changing back to the Fitbit Surge soon (versus buying the Vivoactive) SOLELY because of the Garmin Connect app. The core purpose of these devices is to obtain and use data to improve your fitness and lifestyle. The app is virtually worthless when it comes to analyzing the health & fitness data (total steps, total sleep hours and mood?? Come on.). Does Garmin even look at other apps and the analysis provided there? If Garmin cannot keep pace on the app side, then let us share the data with other apps that can do something with it.
