Are The Multitude of Issues Normal?: Considering Returning Device

I bought my vivofit three days ago. Since then, the reports have been out of sync, the Garmin Connect site has been down repeatedly, my device has had trouble syncing with my computer, the site cannot correctly sync with MyFitnessPal, and the dashboard widgets have appeared blank or with an error. Is this just bad timing on my part, or is Garmin Connect reliability usually this horrendous?

*Edit: Also I cant get to my own sleep summary page because: "You may need to sign in to see this page. Or, the owner may have it marked Private so no one can view it."
  • A mixture. Christmas/New Year tends to cause problems in all sorts of areas, not just on Garmin websites.

I rarely have problems with Connect, but it has had a few problematic days recently, not all can be blamed on Garmin though.

I am also having problems with my new Vivosmart! The apps are not syncing correctly and I am constantly having to sync on Garmin Connect and then on the app. The app never syncs my calories with My Fitness Pal, I have to sync it on Garmin Connect first before it registers on the app. Tonight it won't even sync with MFP at all! Says there is a sync server error! Starting to get a bit irritated now as previously I had a Fitbit and had no issues with it.

As others have said, these problem days are NOT typical. It's just after the holidays were tons of people got new devices as presents. For example, Polar and Misfit has also been having problems over the last few days. The MFP issues often are coming from the MFP end, where they broke syncing with Bodymedia, Withings, and Fitbit about the same time as Garmin Connect.

(And I never got a rash from a Garmin, which isn't the case with other vendors! :o )

Agreed, things have been pretty normal for me and my Vivosmart until recently. Unfortunate that there is no proactive communication from Garmin on the issue, but life will go on....

Having same (significant) errors with my vivosmart, ios app, garmin connect, garmin express and myfitnesspal. Nothing's syncing with each other and my setup is a bit of a mess now from deleting products, files, etc. Everything was working perfectly until today! Thought I'd done something wrong by downloading Communicator Plug-in, that didn't work according to myGarmin but I thought it had sent everything into a spiral....only thing spinning is me though!

Last time anything like this happened to me I lost weeks of data from corrupted files caused by change to Garmin Express.

When did this happen to you?

I think the same thing happened to me. But my memory is affected by a glitch or several glitches that happened because I was late in converting fully to Garmin Express (I had a Garmin Express account for my new Edge 500, but was still simultaneously running a USB stick driven by ANT Agent for my FR910XT which was supposed to be impossible, but somehow I was doing it, but running into problems all the time.) When I finally killed my ANT Agent and registered my 910XT on Garmin Express as I remember something bad happened and I lost the data on one activity session, but I may be mixing events up in my mind. After that, I think things have been more or less ok upload wise until now.

ATTENTION: KATERANDOM -- see other threads -- many Garmin users of other devices 210, 220, 310 etc., and men 910XT are encountering difficulty uploading our activities to Garmin Connect this past 12 hours, so it's not your device, but the Garmin servers or their software at the server side; not an everyday occurrence, but it has happened before, and very annoying for all. Just hope that when they restore service the data on the activities which Garmin Express says has been uploaded or synced is not lost forever.

Looks like I'm having the same trouble as shed loads of people but come on people, whilst I'm a tad frustrated too by all these server issues, is there really any need to get so wound up! OK, I can't sync my Vivosmart right now; my calorie consumption is not bang up to date..............dear oh dear. We're all alive and well, and able to enjoy life so, without wanting to upset anyone or sound like a bore, everyone should calm down a bit. Garmin express customer services have stuck a closed thread up showing they're working on these known issues (probably because so many of us have a new toy that we want to play with and the demand is overloading Garmin's system!) so relax, catch a few zzzzzz's and it'll all be ok. I'm sure we'll all survive ;-)

Vivosmart, iPhone, Macbook Pro - It's all good

What about the non server break issues such as:

    No support for Kilojoules?
Only 1 eastern australian time zone supported, when there are two?
Move bar reporting I haven't moved for 4hrs 30minutes when in fact I've walked over 2kms in that time?
MFP not automatically syncing calorie data unless you manually sync over at the connect website

The problem isn't the servers, that's the resultant issue. The problem has been a complete and utter lack of planning to cope with the demand that they had to know was coming. Where are the redundant backup paths? Why is there no failover systems in place? We are talking about a product that stood to make Garmin several million dollars this past month alone. Surely a $100k investment in a redundant server array would have been better money spent than all this wasted support dollars and frustrated customers.

Our sincere apologies for any problems you have been experiencing with the Garmin Integration. Unfortunately, there is a problem with Garmin integrations and at this time and you may see part of the sync work, but not everything. We are doing our best to work with Garmin to try to get all issues resolved as quickly as possible. In light of the holidays, the fix is taking a bit longer than we anticipated. We will post updates to the issue via the following link: https://myfitnesspal.desk.com/custom...updated-12-23-

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with Garmin to get this corrected. While we continue to work on the issue, some members have reported having success with tricking the connection by going to the Garmin connect Dashboard, then to the calories in/out tile, then click settings, Disconnect from MyFitnessPal, then click settings again and connect back to MyFitnessPal. We are not sure if this will work for everyone, but it is something you may want to try until a fix is in place. Again our apologies, we hope the fix will be available soon.
