Can't assign shoes to activity on dashboard

The new gear tracker feature is great. I have 3 pairs of running shoes that I rotate through, so I don't have any set as default. I noticed that once an activity is uploaded to GC and I try to choose which of the 3 shoes I used directly from the dashboard, I get this disappointing "Sorry, we were unable to process your request. Please try again." This also happens if a shoe is selected but I try to change to a different one. The only way to assign gear is to expand the activity, then select gear. Anyone else having this problem?

Another bug/feature is that it is currently possible to assign two different pairs of shoes to one activity. I don't know anyone who starts a run with one pair of shoes then switches mid-run. While this is not a big deal (just select one shoe, deselect the other), Garmin Connect should probably automatically deselect one shoe when another is selected. Other tracking websites do this and I believe it's a simple algorithm modification. This auto-deselect would be especially useful if the "default" shoe is assigned to an activity but someone wants to change the assignment.

    Ok
    1) If you want to add gear to a previous activity you HAVE to enter the date you started using the shoes

upon creation of the gear, else you won't be able to add the gear to a previous activity...

    2) If you want to see total milage you HAVE to enter the MAX milage again upon the creation of the gear...

Thanks! This helped me solve my problem. Today I belatedly added a new pair of shoes and wasn't able to assign them to activities before today. It turns out to be because I hadn't set the start date when I created the entry and the field becomes uneditable after that :-( I accepted the default date so I could go through my activity list and then come back to enter the correct date. But no - that's not possible. It's really not obvious from the interface and I wasted a while faffing trying to get it to work.

On finding the advice above, I removed the "wrong" entry from the gear list and added a new entry, taking care to enter the right date first time. Now it works and I can add the shoes to previous activities :-)
