Garmin segments

I may be thick but just need it explaining !! Just upgraded 810 to 3.4 for segments, do i have to upload segments to use them or does the device auto pick them up if connected to connect through my phone ?

If i have to upload to use them can i upload for a particular area for example North west england or UK ?

When Segments are defined in GC, and you upload a run, the run's GPS data will be compared to known segments and they will be marked in the activity. They don't even need to be segments that you yourself defined.

Yes, (at least on the 510 but assume 810 is same) you create or find a segment in GC and upload it to your device. There is a segment Folder in the edge that you can turn the segments on and off and choose which time (PB or overall leader) you want to compete against. Segments can ne turned on and off individually once in the Edge.

I have loaded a couple of segemnts but havent been for a ride yet
