Auto naming activities is placing me in another city

I've just received a forerunner 920xt, went for a run and a ride and when it sync to garmin connect via wi-fi, it named each "CITY Running" and "CITY cycling" but I'm not in that CITY, actually I am a 100 km apart from it, in another country.
The map of the activity shows it is in my city and streets where I actually ran o cycled.
Can you fix it please or is there a way I can disable it since it's not working correctly.
Thanks.
  • This is just a user to user help forum, so if your pleas are intended for Garmin they likely won't 'hear' you here in this forum.

Apparently Garmin just started doing this on the Garmin Connect website about a week ago. Previously they just assigned "untitled" to every activity uploaded and it was up to the user to rename it. You can still rename it, just click the pencil icon for a quick edit or a full edit and you can change the name and most anything else you want about that activity.

For those that the name comes up correct, it's a win.. but for those that it comes up with a wrong name it's not really any different than "untitled". It's no more work than it was before,

Maybe Garmin will get the naming sorted out a little better, but it was a surprise to all of us when that started happening.
  • For me, the city name has always been correct, and all my activities occur in the city where I live. (my activities are ALL GPS based with a FR15)

If the Garmin you're using has GPS, could it be that it's attempting to name the activity based on the starting or ending location? Or does it used the name of where you live based on your profile. For non-GPS devices (vivifit and vivosmart), it has to use something like the city in your profile.

Now, what if you don't have a city listed in your profile? Your IP public address can also be used to get a rough (very rough in some cases) guess at your location - and it's often the location of your ISP or that of your cell provider

For folks with weird city names, what is defined in your profile for your city, and what device are you using? (one with GPS that is on, or a non GPS device)
