Multiple Problems with Garmin Connect

These are some of the problems i am having with Garmin Connect over the last few days. Auto naming of Runs... i live in Dublin , Ireland and the Runs are being named as "Kilkeel" which is on the other side of the country! I have noticed exactly the same naming problem when i view others runs in the same area. Second and very annoying problem is that trying to do a full edit on activities in either "Classic" or "Modern" views wont work.. just times out or does nothing when clicked.
  • It's a little ridiculous. If I run in Dublin, my activity is recorded as having taken place in Kilkeel (approximately 160kms away), in Northern Ireland (a different country). If I travel three miles south of where I live to do a track session, my activity is recorded as having taken place in Wales (a different country and completely different land-mass, 800kms East of Ireland).

This is why I'm gradually moving over to Strava and abandoning Garmin Connect for my training portal needs, and Nokia 'Now' for my navigation needs. For a company that has built its reputation on selling location-based products, I'd imagine it's pretty embarrassing. Speaks volumes about the Quality Assurance process.

Completely Ridiculous to think a GPS based company has no maps defined for ROI. I am based in the midlands and my runs are tracked as NewtownButler. Another town in Northern Ireland. It would be better if it was left as untitled as the same effort has to be made to rename the activity.

I dont accept the "Cant please everybody" argument as the company are selling a product that people are paying a lot of money for. When it doesnt do what it is supposed to do some action should be taken.

How ridiculous will it be to have 12,000 runners taking part in the Dublin marathon this year and everyone of them that invested in a Garmin will have it recorded as 26.2 miles in Kilkeel, a location over 100 miles away?
  • Yes, this is very frustrating, all of my runs in Ireland are classed as an area outside of Ireland. Seems fine when I travel outside of Ireland.
How come Strava can get this right with the same GPS data and Garmin cannot?
  • Can't agree more - you need to get as many people as you know with this issue to report it directly to Garmin and try and put some pressure on them - also may be worth trying to get it publicised in the press if you get no joy - as it is obviously pretty poor that a GPS company can't get this sort of thing right.
  • I've just opened a case with Garmin Support as well, the auto-naming has worked fine in the US and most recently South Africa for me but come back to Ireland & it knows nothing.
