GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • Going on several months now. I suspect Garmin outsourced the development of this software out of house..... Garmin used to develop all stuff in house but I know this changed over the past couple of years.

Or maybe Garmin realizes they have a monopoly on handheld units and thus has no incentive to fix the problem.

My Garmin etrex 30 is going well and I am quite happy with it, This is only an issue with garmin connect. I have gone over to strava. It does a better job and seems to suit my purposes better.
  • Someone talks before about rocket science. It seems to be quantum calculations because two months later ... the bug it's still kicking. It's very disappointing ... I'm almost sure that the next HR / GPS will be a suunto unit, movescount works so much better than garmin connect. I can be patient ... but not idiot.
  • A source tells me that this issue will be fixed later today or tomorrow. Keep an eye out!

Just uploaded a GPX (eTrex30) and I have distance calculations, hurray.
But not for previously uploaded files, oh dear...
  • All seems to be working now. Time to re-upload all previously affected GPX files.
  • Hooray, don't have to manually edit loads of information now. Works well.
  • I used GarminConnect for years with a forerunner 305 and GPSmap 60CSx. All my mountain biking, road biking, hiking, skiing, kayaking tracks worked great...no problem. In December 2014, the 60 no longer worked as far as distance and speed. I thought it was a bug or the 60 was going bad but it worked great in topo. The topo generated gpx didn't upload right when I did a manual upload. I sent a trouble report to Garmin. They replied that GarminConnect no longer supports the 60 or non fit files. It's only a gpx file, sheesh. I guess they look at people that use GC to track hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing without the heartbeat option as lower class. I liked having my data on a website that I could get into from any computer, tablet, phone to review and show others where a good route or biking trail was. I would have even paid a monthly fee for the service. There was never a problem and I thought highly of GC. The 60 works great, its been a real trooper...quality. I guess Garmin wants me to buy the latest and greatest. Screw 'em....Mike in Montana (Garminmfo1) was my user name. At least they didn't boot all my old data off the website.

Do we really have to reload gpx files, or is there a button somewhere which will recalculate distances etc from the already uploaded gpx files.
This isn't such a huge problem for me as I've just started using GC but I can imagine it's a lot or work for others.
  • Thanks, will test.

    Bulk uploader?
  • It works now but you have to re-upload all your gpx files.
I don't know if there's another way to do it.
But these two months and the way garmin has managed this problem...
