GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • What has gone unsaid here is that this probably effects thousands of users, most of whom never get to these forums. Many will first suspect their device is at fault and then go down the reset to factory defaults rabbit hole. Garmin could add a simple note to the download page that there is a current issue with gpx file downloads and save everyone a great deal of grief. The whole issue really speaks volumes about Garmin's general attitude towards their customers.

You mean like e.g. on this screen? (And there are other suitable screens as well!) I pity the users who don't know about the existence of this forum as they might be battling so much with their uploads without knowing any better, as there is NO indication anywhere on the GC website to inform them about the issue :(

I had given up to expect proper communication (and agile technical prowess) from Garmin - it is totally beyond them to grasp the gravity of the impact.

Sadly - they are so far behind the curve at this stage, it reminds me of how companies operated < 1990's.

Can someone explain me why it takes 1,5 months to fix this issue? Ever after beeing recognized it's not rocket science to fix a calculation issue?

Do I really need to import everything now in endomundo?

    No, you can use Basecamp.
  • It's rocket science!

Their code is outsourced to Elbonia which has no rockets, just a giant slingshot.

Seriously, this has taken way too long to be fixed.
  • It's not the same. For instance, Basecamp doesn't give you stats of your weekly, monthly training, etc.
  • I don't know if I'm stating anything that hasn't been stated before don't have time to go through 17 pages of posts. However, this problem only seems to effect newly uploaded gpx files. The last upload I made was the 25th of September last year. All my uploads on that date and before show the distance and speed. The file I just uploaded is effected by this problem.
  • As I mentioned before, a few months ago Garmin had the exact opposite problem, distance was shown 1000x too much.

They fixed that, so how difficult can it be?

I still think the root cause for that problem hasn't been solved, bu they created a workaround by dividing all distances by 1000.
Now, for some unknown reason, the root cause has disappeared but the 1000 divider is still active.
Just kill the divider... problem solved.
  • I just noticed that it's not only a GPX problem, but also with TCX format things go wrong. With GPX distance is divided by 1000 (60km becomes 0.06km) but with uploading the same track in TCX format (exported from Basecamp) only time, map, and elevation are displayed correct. Everything else is 0. Speed, distance, average speed and time. All 0.
    This is ridiculous.

Sorry if something like this has already been posted earlier. Didn't read the whole forum.

Having this problem as well while using an Oregon 450. Can't believe it's been a known issue for so long.
