GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • Well, now I am really convinced that the gpx import issue is promoted by Garmin ! the data are divided by exactly 1000. Garmin is really going on the WRONG WAY, exactly like Nokia did with Android. Garmin policy seems to be too conservative...this is the begining of the end. Excellent mapping and activity cloud management are growing and being better everyday. This is very sad... For Nokia, the name of the responsible was clearly M. Elop. For Garmin, we will know soon, when they will announce bad news for the employees.

    best regards

  • Even if Garmin fix it now I have lost confidence in the brand and tech (cap)ability. It can happen 'tomorrow' again and we could be down for x amount of days / weeks / months / years without any communication as recently proved. This hopefully will go down as a lesson on how NOT to treat an issue / manage client's expectations. (But then again...)

Although I might continue using GC (with great circumspection!) when the GPX import is working correctly again, this situation had a direct bearing on my decision NOT to buy a VIRB as I planned to do, and I also acquired a Polar M400 this week instead of an FR product. (As the trust to put my reliance and money on garmin is totally gone :( )

Yes I know Garmin won't feel it / doesn't care - but a stable reliable platform and good communication is important to me.

Finally, after more than a month(!!) they at least confirm it as a bug.

Just got that answer from the official support which confirms it, too:

    Dear Martin***,

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

We are aware of the issues surrounding Garmin Connect. This will incorrectly upload data and display it incorrectly in Connect.

Our software engineers are still working on this and will hopefully have this resolved soon.

Please accept my apologies for this we sincerely hope to have this working correctly soon.

  • I'm getting a distance of 0.00 miles when I upload a .gpx file that my GPS (Garmin GPSmap 62stc) says is 5.1 miles. If I upload that same file to BaseCamp,
it shows 7.9 miles. Another (non-Garmin) site gives me 4.9 miles. How do I know what to believe?
  • I have been having the same issue. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong only to find out it's a Garmin issue. PLEASE FIX ASAP!
  • Same problem, I'm using oregon 450T. 10km -> 0.01 km. it is completely independent of the import mode (direct import from Oregon, from Basecamp of manual import of gpx files. The bug appeared in December and is always there today.
    Any news from Garmin ?

  • This works, I believe the info is available earlier in the thread. Install TCX Converter, it's free. paypal them a few bucks for the fine work. Import your gpx file and export as tcx. Import the tcx file into Garmin Connect. Works perfectly. http://www.tcxconverter.com/TCX_Converter/TCX_Converter_ENG.html http://www.tcxconverter.com/TCX_Converter/TCX_Converter_ENG.html
