GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • Well, me too, but glad I found this thread, because I was trying all sorts of things to get it to work. Good to know that it is a Garmin problem, not something wrong with my GPX files. Guess I'll just upload the files again when the problem is fixed at Garmin's end.

I saw in one of Garmin's replies that 'they don't guarantee connect will work with 3rd party files. Well, my files were not 3rd party. They were GPS files taken directly from an Oregon 650.

Anyway, at least I can still sync the forerunner.
  • Still not working. Distances just need to be multiplied by 1000. How hard can it be to fix something this simple?
  • Yep, Connect will manually upload a GPX file but NOT display the correct distance which of course buggars the speed.

Then I saved that same GPX file as a FIT file and it uploaded to Connect with the correct distance and all the rest was okay.

Obviously the problem is with Connect reading the GPX file. The file itself is fine.
  • I am really really happy that I found this thread :)
Since I am really fresh Garmin owner, it was really annoying (in fact it is still annoying) that from the beginning of my membership GC is not working properly.
No I feel a little relief I must say, that it is not only about me, because I was really close to giving my Dakota back to the store.

On the other hand though, it is really strange that Garmin team is not able to sort this out within last three weeks... wierd
  • More than this issue itself, silence from Garmin is really irritating !

Datezz, how did you convert from GPX to FIT? I've tried several well-known services (GPS Babel, GPSies) and there's no option. You may import FIT and export GPX but the opposite is not available.

As regards Garmin silence, I received the following e-mail message from Garmin support on January 8:

The Dakota 20 uploads GPX files and currently the issue you are seeing is one that we know about with Garmin Connect are are working to get fixed as soon as possible.

For what it is worth, they at least seem to know about the issue.
  • Still not working - going for almost our weeks now.

    Does Garmin management read Twitter?
  • Hi,

    This problem is really annoying.

Datezz, how did you do to convert your GPX to FIT?
I searched the web and found TCX converter that can export to FIT but my FIT file doesn't want to upload on Garmin connect.

Any solutions until Garmin fix the bug?
  • Hello Dpiron,

    http://fitfilerepairtool.info/

The Fit File Repair Tool (paid version) does it all. See link above.

Install the free version first and whatever else you need to make sure your computer will run the Tool. Then pay for a license if you want full access to the software.

I am just a satisfied paying customer and IMHO this is an excellent software tool.
