GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • Same problem with a Colorado 300.
Other tools show the distance without any problem.
  • Same here ! Using ETREX30 - Italian language - Metric dimensions.

First updated gpx showing these issues was on 2014, December the 20th.

GPX given by Etrex 30 is perfect because all data are perfectly showed not only by Strava, but also by GSP TRACK EDITOR (1.13.130).

Something MUST be wrong with GARMIN CONNECT.
  • My Connect is showing details without a problem, so not sure it's Connect.
  • It happened suddenly and I noticed this issue started from when Garmin introduced the "Equipment" setting (maybe in Eng version is not exactly 'equipment' but I mean the setting in which an user can setup bike, shoes, and so on...)

I am obviously not sure about a direct link between introduction of 'equipment' setup and data issue, but, for sure, somebody in Garmin put his hands on Connect software, introducing some kind of a damned bug.

We are not new to situations like this, followed by Garmin's total silence.... until an update tries to repair broken dishes...
  • I have had the same issue recently. I moved over from SportTracks when I switched to a Mac computer. I am not too impressed with Garmin Connect so far. I like the Garmin hardware (handheld GPS and bike computer), but the software has been pretty un-impressive.

Mm... I uploaded a gpx file on 17/12 and it's fine. On 19/12 I tried another and it shows distance as zero, plus it's the first file I've had on Garmin Connect which is not 'untitled'. So, I'm assuming the problem has only started to occur when Connect was updated? In my case the gpx file is fine, as it works both in Garmin MapSource and Strava with distances shown. Considering this, I can't see how it's anything else, but Connect?

I understand this might be a place just to air grievances, as it appears Garmin do not address anything here, but it is their forum, so one can feel a little annoyed with a problem like this. I've made a complaint to Garmin Support, but that was six days ago and have heard nothing, but considering the time of year, I'd expect a slower response. Maybe!
  • The greatest issue is that I cannot guess if missing data, once uploaded, are wrongly displayed but available in the remote database, or they actually miss.

In other words: once I uploaded my logged trip, should I just wait that data will be showed in the right way ?
Or, on the contrary, have to avoid uploading, keeping GPXes tracks in the 'ToBeUploaded' folder on my pc until something happens ?

Old users have learnt that silence is the normal behaviour they use to communicate.
  • Same problem over here with my Etrex20. I saw some little changes in garmin connect. Probably there occured some bugs during the update. I hope they fix it as soon as possible.
  • I read this thread, dated 2 months back, with more or less the same problem, but opposite of the problem described here.
    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?151047-Garmin-Connect-Activities-Reports-Distance-swimming-shows-thousand-kms

So back then, the problem was that all distances shown 1000x longer then then they really were.
My theory: It looks like Garmin fixed this by dividing it by 1000 without solving the root cause.
Now, the root cause has been solved during the down time, but the 1000 divider is still active.

    Plausible theory???
  • Samme issue today, the first time I started using Garmin Connect. Thought I was doing something wrong.
