How Do I Turn Off Auto-Naming Of Activities?

I don't like it.

The names are inaccurate. If I'm doing a resting heartrate test in my house then I'm not out running as the title suggests.

Much preferred when it uploaded as "Untitled".

Is there an option to turn this off on our individual profiles? Or can we just ditch it in the next update please.
  • It is awful. Not just that it chooses meaningless names, but at least when activities appear as "Untitled", I can recognise immediately that I haven't looked at them yet!
Seriously needs to be optional (or just get rid of it completely!)

  • Yep I actually like it - this means less typing for me - so far all the titles have been fine for what I was doing.

Would be nice if the titles also went with the auto-sync into Strava and TP though...but hopefully that will come along later.

Just use the date of the activity for the name... !

Yet others asked for it https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?16245-Auto-naming-activites

maybe others asked for it, but not everyone - so it seems a bit poorly considered to roll this out without any (obvious) choice of how to get around it?
as will always be the way with such things, the people who didn't want/need it (or hadn't even thought about it but are now finding it an inconvenience to have to rename activities) wouldn't have been engaging in a discussion about it.

in the short term, there seems to be an unanswered question as to whether there is any way for a user to turn this feature off (so making it optional), or will this be considered for a future update? personally, i find the names (which are location based) to be of no use, as it doesn't matter to me where I run and the names that are chosen are so specific that I don't recognise them anyway.

so my suggestion would be for something more parametric - activity type (running/cycling), date, specifics of activity (400m reps - if this could be interpreted from the data) would be more useful. but this is a personal preference so, perhaps along with an option to disable, could there be a way of choosing how the automatic name is created?
  • I fail to see the difference between an activity name that you don't like and "untitled". There is no more work to change it to something more useful to you than there was before. Although I admit just naming it "untitled" did make more sense to me. But as previously stated, many people ask for a name to be generated automatically. No matter what methodology is chosen, I'm sure there will be many that want it based on other criteria.

EXACTLY! (but I wish if it was one of the known courses, it would have used that as the name! :) )
  • At least in Buenos Aires , Argentina, it sucks, its autonaming withe meaningless names.
