Uploading photo to garmin connect

Hi there,

Is it possible to upload a photo to garmin connect, for example, if I want to share my run along with photos taken during the run?

  • Please

Please, please, please! Even Strava added this feature recently.
  • I just started using Garmin Connect on the web, so I don't know how long this feature has been available, but it now an option.

One caveat... to upload to the Web version of Garmin Connect the file MUST be a PNG of less than 10 MB in size.

After several failed attempts to upload jpg files of various sizes, I contacted Garmin support. The tech had no prior knowledge of this issue and when attempting to duplicate the error messages, she tried it with a png file on her desktop and it worked. So I converted my photo to png and it worked for me as well.

It seems crazy to me they don't allow JPG files, but at the very least, in the "Click to add photos to your activity" dialog box it should state the PNG and 10 MB size limitations.

EDIT: (Didn't know I could do this earlier)

See below... "You CAN use jpg, png, gif, bmp..."

  • The 10MB limit is true, and documented at File Size Limitation of Photos in Garmin Connect Activities | Garmin Customer Support. However, it is not true, that only PNG images can be uploaded. You can use jpg, png, gif, bmp, and possibly other file formats. Just tested it right now, to assure myself nothing changed recently.

  • Makes sense it should accept a lot more types of image files.

But from the Garmin Connect web page I STILL cannot upload a jpg whether dragging a photo over the "Click here to add photos" or clicking to bering up the select file dialog.

HOWEVER, once I have ALREADY uploaded at least one PNG file, I now CAN upload a JPG by clicking "Add" just above the existing photo.

Seems to me there is a bug in the initial upload code, and probably a different routine is used for the initial upload as compared to adding subsequent photos.

  • I do no experience any bug. I can upload any format without uploading a png file first. However, I do not drag the file there, since the dialog explicitly tells "Click here..."

  • The PNG file uploads fine whether I use the "Click here" OR dragging into the box.

Weird.. but now trying again to upload a photo on a different activity of a month ago, it NOW accepted a JPG that I dragged into the "Click here" box.

The only thing I can think of is that I had logged out of Garmin Connect when I got your response notification by email and so I logged in again. Maybe a glitch that "healed itself" by signing out and back in? Who knows... computers, browsers and web sites can be finicky at times I guess.
