Did the 14.10 release of Garmin Connect API break TCX exporting in some cases?

Hi,

I have an issue which may, or may not, be a regression in the TCX exporting functionality.

More specifically, it seems that lately, for some cases, exporting an activity to TCX format does not include the GPS trackpoints of the activity.

Furthermore, I never used to see any problems with this. To be more specific, I have an activity (http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/592084660), which I used to be able to export properly (including all trackpoint elements). However, from what I can judge, since the 14.10 release of the API, the trackpoints are no longer included in the TCX file.

The only real difference I can see between the exported file today compared to the one that included the Trackpoints is that the API version has changed from

<Author xsi:type="Application_t">
<Name>Garmin Connect API</Name>
<Build>
<Version>
<VersionMajor>14</VersionMajor>
<VersionMinor>9</VersionMinor>
<BuildMajor>0</BuildMajor>
<BuildMinor>0</BuildMinor>
</Version>

to

<Author xsi:type="Application_t">
<Name>Garmin Connect API</Name>
<Build>
<Version>
<VersionMajor>14</VersionMajor>
<VersionMinor>10</VersionMinor>
<BuildMajor>0</BuildMajor>
<BuildMinor>0</BuildMinor>
</Version>

Have I encountered some strange bug or can you confirm this erratic behavior?
The aforementioned activity is public and can be used to reproduce the problem.

best regards, Peter
  • Hi Peter. I asked the same thing in my thread and received no replies. As you mentioned, I also think this is a new problem. You might also notice that Google Earth export (to kml) doesn't work either. For your activity the attempted export to Google Earth produces a page like this:
    This webpage is not available

    The webpage at connect.garmin.com/.../592084660 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    Error code: ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE

    I also gave a specific example of a publicly-visible activity of mine that will not export correctly and asked simply if anybody would try to reproduce it, but nobody replied. This forum doesn't seem very active and clearly nobody from Garmin in a position to help is reading.

    Our only hope seems to be that potential Garmin customers will find the forum, learn about the many software and hardware problems with Garmin products, and apply some pressure to the company to be more diligent about fixing bugs. Or simply take their business elsewhere. Or hope that a paragraph like this will finally inspire a Garmin moderator to at least acknowledge this problem - I know, I can dream ;)
  • Hi Jim, good to hear that someone can verify the buggy behavior, but disappointing to hear that Garmin doesn't appear to give it proper attention.
    If it is a regression introduced in the 14.10 release, one can always hope that a similar "mistake" fixes the bug in 14.11 ... :-)

    It would still be nice to hear if more users are affected by this issue.
    If a sufficient number of users report the issue I guess the bug fix will be given priority in a future development iteration.

    Same problem here. TCX files missing track points, but not for all activities, just some - strange.
    Did you guys ever find a solution?
  • @peter.gardfjall - the activity you originally shared with us seems to be gone now. Could you update your original post with a new publicly-visible activity that also has this problem? I bumped my own thread only to share that Garmin has completely failed to address this issue after more than six months, and I don't want the fact that your original activity has disappeared to be a problem should they try to review it.
