Communicator plug in not installing.

I have an Edge 705 with a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) that I have been using successfully for several years.
Recently, last two weeks or so, when I try to upload a ride with Communicator or Strava I get the message "Garmin Communicator Plugin was not found on your computer."

I have now downloaded and installed the plugin several times, rebooted the computer and disconnected the Garmin, all to no avail.

The Garmin Express program still launches when I attach the Edge.

I am still able to upload rides by manually selecting the file from the Edge, but the automatic upload feature is no longer working.

Any clues?

Michael
  • OK, first, the bad news. Communicator Plugin has been abandoned by Garmin, although last time I looked it's still available. The reason they've abandoned it is that the major browsers are abandoning the plugin framework that CP uses. You don't mention which browser you use, but that may be your problem right there if you've recently upgraded Chrome or Firefox. Garmin Connect Modern doesn't use the plugin at all.

The good news: CP still works for me on my Mac Pro running 10.10.1 using Safari. So maybe all you have to do is change browsers. You should be using Express for automatic uploads, though, if it works with a 705 (I'm not entirely sure; I have a 705 and it's in Express, but I haven't paired it with Garmin Connect since I don't use the 705 any more). Even if you don't want to use Garmin Connect, you can always just ignore it, and it will distribute tracks to Strava and a bunch of other places automatically once you've paired accounts.
