How to create repeating intervals?

On the old Garmin Training Center, it was super easy to create repeating intervals.

The new Garmin connect doesn't have this feature as far as I can tell.

Is this by design, am I missing it? Should I just go back to using the training center and forget the ability to wirelessly download my workouts to my Garmin?
  • It is there, it just isn't as flexible as the workout editors in Garmin Connect and sometimes directly on the device.

In the workout editor, at the bottom of the page is a button labelled Add Repeat. Click that button, then specify the number of times you'd like to repeat. Now either click the Add a step link inside the repeat, or drag a step into the repeat. Add more steps to the repeat as you see fit.

  • The question was how to create repeating interval, not how to create repeats.
I have a similar challenge to Travis: an interval workout riding at high effort for 20 seconds then normal effort for 40s, repeating until I reach the top of a climb. I then coast back to the bottom and do it all again between 3 and 5 times. The only option I can see is to create these 20/40 intervals and then manually repeat the workout 3 to 5 times. This limitation is unexpected because Garmins strength workout builder has this feature via reps and sets.

If I understand you correctly, that's exactly what the Repeats in the Workouts editor, that  suggested 8 years ago, are for. Or did I misunderstand?

  • You misunderstand. The question is how to create nested repeats: say 3 x (8 x (20s/40s)+ 2 mins coast down hill) which is a 30 minute duration workout. The screenshot is for 3 x (20s/40s) which is a 3 minute workout.
In my case the 8 could be 7 or 9 depending how fast I am able to climb on that occasion.

  • There is a way to do this. Create the longer duration (outside) interval as a repeat. Don't add any information inside it yet. Then create a second repeat. with the shorter duration interval inside it. Add details into this. Carefully drag the second repeat inside the first repeat. Finally, you may need to remove some of the unused steps from the first repeat. In my case I removed the blue section and kept the recovery. Adjust the number of times each one repeats. Here is a screenshot of my 5 x 8 repeating interval workout.

Yes, I did not understand how exactly you want to do the downhill ride, letting it for you to add in the way you want, and hoping the example is sufficient for the illustration. Thankfully  has shown it directly.
