I cannot change my privacy settings on either the mobile app or the garmin connect website. When I go to the privacy link on the website, it is blank. When I click on privacy settings on the app, it only lets me change my privacy settings for my profile but not my activities. The default appears to be set to private, and I would like my connections to be able to see my activities.

    I am trying to change my privacy settings, so that I can share some of my activities, but when I get to the settings page, select privacy, nothing appears on the right side. Obviously I am talking about accessing Garmin Connect with a web browser from a computer. I tried various browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome) from various machines (Win7, Win8), but the privacy settings still don't appear.

    I also tried to change the privacy settings with the iPhone app, but when I tap on "Who can see your new activities?", I get the following error message: "Failed to retrieve your profile information. Please try again later." I have been trying for a few days now...

    I'm having the same problem. Except trying to access privacy settings on the mobile app for my android, the app crashes every time. Gotta say I'm already thinking that buying a Garmin was a bad idea. Can't change privacy settings, can't share any activities, can't see a way to export an activity. Looking like I just got an expensive watch with very few features.
  • To be fair, I am not that disappointed with Garmin, I actually love my devices. I just returned a few Adidas gadgets, I wonder how you would feel about them... ;-)

    If you are looking for exporting your activities to TCX or GPX format, you can do so by entering the details of the activity, clicking on the little gear icon in the top right corner, and select the desired format to export to. At least it works for me.

    I had to change to classic view to find any choices for exporting the activities. Classic view seems to work a lot better. Still can't change any privacy settings though, so I have to import my runs into other running apps to share them anywhere. At least Endomondo and Runkeeper will import directly from the watch. Not seeing a good reason to even use Garmin Connect now.
  • Do you see a blank page when you click this link? Is this problem consistent across multiple browsers on different computers? I ask because it could just be a browser compatibility issue, or it could be an issue with your Garmin Connect account. Given the explanation of your problem, it sounds like an account issue, and you'll probably have to work with the folks at Garmin to work that out.

    There are two privacy settings for Garmin Connect regardless of how you access them. There is one for your user profile and another for your activities. The privacy setting for your activities only changes the default privacy setting for future activities. It does not apply to any activity file that has already been uploaded to Garmin Connect.

    Once an activity has been uploaded to Garmin Connect, you have to change the privacy setting for that activity directly. You can do this on the activity details page or when doing a quick edit on the activity list page by clicking the lock icon for each activity.

    Sounds like a problem with your Garmin Connect account. I'd contact Garmin to work through the problem.

    I contacted Garmin with the exact same problem last week. It is impossible to change privacy settings on my account. The problem exists on all browsers, and all platforms including Android, Microsoft, and Apple. Garmin was able to duplicate the problem at their location and they were unable to give me a "work around". They acknowledged the problem was on their end, and indicated they would contact me when they had resolved the issue.

  • Why wait until JWHEDBERG gets a response? If you don't contact them yourself, it isn't likely that your problem will be resolved, and the more people that the problem affects should cause the priority to be increased, so it would be resolved sooner.
