Sharing a Workout on Garmin Connect

Hey Forum,
I am new to the devices and I would like to share a workout I created with my girlfriend and training partner but cannot seem to figure out how. If anyone had any tips on how it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Same here. I used to create then on Garmin Training Center, export them, send the files to my running pals so they could import them into their Garmin Training Center and send them to their device. Can't see any upload or share function for work outs on GC. Has anyone found a solution ?
  • Garmin Connect doesn't currently provide an easy way to share training plans. You can use a web browser and the Garmin Connect API to get access to a textual representation of the activity (assuming it is on Garmin Connect). Once you have this, you can give it to someone else and they, using a web browser and the Garmin Connect API, can generate a workout from that. It isn't pretty.

It shouldn't be hard for someone to code this up. Unfortunately, access to the Garmin Connect API requires a $5000 cover charge, and most small-time developers aren't willing to drop a bunch of cash on something like this. So until Garmin opens up the API, chances are slim that someone outside of Garmin will implement the functionality.

That is a shame there isn't a simple share with a friend option if they are already allowing you to connect with other runners via their social network option. I hope they change that soon.
  • Please, dear Garmin, can we have this feature? Means groups of friends can all follow similar workouts together - would make Garmin Connect a so much more powerful tool...!!
  • TOTALLY AGREE. Please Garmin do something about it. Isn't this software called Garmin CONNECT.

    Totally agree, too !
My aim is to share workouts with my partners that are in the group created in Garmin Connect... I think that is should a basic use of such groups...
I guess it would be possible to add a "share to a group" button in the workouts creator ?
Do I really read "connect" in the app name ?

Has this changed in the last five years?

  • Not that it changed, but there was always a way to share a workout relatively easily - connect to the watch with the USB cable, and send your friend the workout FIT file from the folder //GARMIN/Workout/. He just needs to put it to the same folder on his device.
