Garmin Communication plug in

I am trying to set up Garmin Connect so that I can download details of my ride. Every time I try I get a message to download'Garmin Communication Plug In', which I have done but just get a repeat of the message about downloading 'Garmin Communication...'. I am running Widows 8.1 on my PC and use Google Chrome for the internet.I can view my rides etc on an older PC. I got everything to work on my old PC which was running Windows XP. Any suggestions for solving the problem would be appreciated.

You don't need the Garmin Communicator Plugin. You need Garmin Express which you can get on this page.

Garmin Communication Plug in.

Excuse my ignorance how will this work?. I have downloaded Garmin Express.

You will need to connect your 800 to your computer via the USB cable. Garmin Express will recognize the device is connected and will find the activity data on the device and will upload the activity files to Garmin Connect automatically.
