Deleting Rides off Device but not Connect

Trying to find a I am sure a simple answer, but want to delete the activities off my Edge 800 to free up space to record new rides, but can't find out whether i go onto Garmin Connect and delete the rides will it lose the data of Connect and all my totals and routes etc?

The last thing i want to happen is delete them hopefully taking them off the device but losing them and their data off Garmin Connect. I can only find that going into activities and then highlighting the ones i want to delete or selecting all to clear them but don't know what the final outcome would be and so am putting off the delete.

Some help with this would be great..thanks
  • Deleting activity files off Garmin Connect will not delete the activity files off of your device. Vice versa is true too.

Your device will eventually run out of memory and seemingly strange things might happen if you don't delete activity files from your device.

On your device, you can use either the file explorer on your computer and delete them or you can delete them using the interface on your edge 800. If you use a mac, then be sure to empty the trash before disconnecting so the space will be freed up.

I copy all my activity files to a safe place on my computer for safe keeping. That way I'll have them if I ever want to use different software or another website to view them.
