Red number 5 on dashboard

My Garmin Connect dashboard has an envelope with the number [5] next to it in a red box.

When I click on that envelope, I'm told that there are "no requests right now" and "no notifications right now".

What does the number [5] mean?

The number has climbed to 6.

The number has climbed to 7. I still see "no requests right now" and "no notifications right now".

How can I fix this issue?

This is a long standing issue. If you search the forums you'll find a number of threads.just refresh the page and it will go away. The number appears when your screen has been inactive
