Map and elevation data lost?

Former Member

Hi,

I have just returned from my first cycling holiday and connected my Garmin Forerunner 305 to my laptop - everything looks fine for days 3-7 but for days 1 and 2 I can see my distance and speed information but there is no map and no elevation data :(. As I used the device in the same way every day I'm not sure why this is.

A couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to recover this information
2. I know the route I took so is there any way of manually plotting this within the activity?

Many thanks,
Laura

Having looked some more it appears that I only have a TCX file available to download for this - the GPS file doesn't seem to exist. Hope that is useful and that someone is able to help!
  • Try exporting that file to your computer then import it back to Garmin Connect. A few months ago someone had a similar issue with maps not showing for some rides and doing that worked for them.

Better yet, if you still have the original activity file on your device or computer, then import it to GC. I don't know what kind of activity files your device produces, but if they are .gpx or .tcx then you can open them with simple text editor. If you don't see a bunch of GPS positions, then something happened. Possibly the GPS never locked onto the signal and gave up.

Hi, I have a problem. Map connect.garmin.com shows a very different place than where my walk.

    Other data are correct.
