Hello, I think I did a bad thing and I'm hoping it's not catastrophic! I bought a 1690 on eBay that works flawlessly! This GPS is specifically for my motorcycle, but it's not waterproof, so I bought a RAM Aqua Box, which is waterproof. On the Aqua Box the charging cable must be run through the back of the box & then a plate is screwed on after the fact. I didn't realize this before I bought the box because it put me in a bit of a bind. I either had to leave the entire setup mounted to the handlebars all the time OR I would have to remove the plate on the back of the box to get the cable out so I could remove the whole thing...EVERY time I wanted to remove it!
Well, since I didn't like either of those options I came up with a third option...I cut the charging cable (it was one of those hardwire kits, so there are only 2 wires...a positive & a negative) and put connectors on either end of the cable. One connector has two prongs. The other has two holes. I put the whole thing together, plugged it in & the unit powered on & showed that it was charging. All was good until I plugged the thing in incorrectly. Meaning I didn't line the plugs up properly even though I had them marked and ended up negative to positive. The unit did not come on when plugged in. I had to power it on manually but the battery would not charge after I changed the plug so it was positive to positive.
Now the unit will not take a charge from any source...motorcycle, car or computer. What inside the unit could be damaged that would cause this and is it something that can be fixed? Please help!
Thank you!!!
