'Modern View' Feedback

From the appearance point of view, this is a lot better than the previous interface, but sadly that's where the positives stop. I find it clumsy to navigate, features seem to be missing and clickthroughs often don't produce the expected results. I usually have to do a lot of digging to find what used to be staring me in the face.

The upload app, Garmin Express, is even more buggy than it's predecessor and steadfastly refuses to upload anything from my Forerunner 305. At home I use Linux and have found a great plugin for Firefox that just works. It's a shame that Garmin, with all of their financial and technical resources, can't or won't produce a reliable synch app that works across all platforms when somebody else can produce, in their spare time and at no cost, a better product.

I have reverted to the old interface.

And guys, seriously, you have the slowest website on the planet. Invest in some new servers. Please.

For the record I use Windows 7, Ubuntu, IE10/11, Chrome and Firefox on very fast (55MB) internet connections.
  • I don't like it at all. I did a ride and run and they combined it in to one event proudly saying it was a feature only available on modern!! First I don't want modern. second I don't want my events combined. Third they didn't give me any option but just did it. Good old strava kept the separate. Lot to learn. I've emailed Garmin loads of time but no-one ever replies so I guess they are not interested in feedback - hence why they continue to much around delivering things people don't want!

I've just bought an eTrex and I'm finding it impossible to use with Garmin software. On top of that my account is screwed and I have to request a new password each time I want to login. Sadly this means Basecamp won't play. I'm seriously considering seeking a refund on the eTrex and trading my forerunner in for a Suunto or TomTom. Strava is great, like you say. Often I have to use Runkeeper to convert a GPX that everything except Garmin can read into a GPX that everything including Garmin can read.

I suspect their software development is outsourced to a distant nation. Most companies (I've worked for some of them) realised early on that this is a bad idea - the subtleties suffer.
