Vivofit 'Pairing"

I have bought two vivofit bands. One brand new.One second hand.
The new one has failed on a great deal of times at the final hurdle after prompting for the user to enter personal details after linking to an existing account.
The second hand one was 'paired'first time setting up a new account and resetting.
I dont want to try to set up a separate account just for Vivo and have continued to be denied final completion due to.. Óur servers are down etc try again later'.

Is the Vivofit unit a dud? When I sign onto garmin connect some of the data I loaded is lodged under health and fitness tab beside my cycling edge 200 data. So how come I am unable to initiate the vivofit band to work and start recording data?

Frustrated.
