However if the .gpx file is a course file, then Garmin Connect will not import it. Garmin Connect AFAIK, will only import activity files. That's not to say that you can't edit your course file and make it acceptable for GC. However that takes more knowledge and certainly more effort than I'm willing to do.
GPX files can't contain courses, TCX files can. However, when a GPX file contains a track without timestamps or a route, Connect won't import it either. The trick is to convert a track or route to a course with JaVaWa RTWtool (this way timestamps will be added), and then convert the course to a track (because Connect doesn't accept courses) The resulting track can be uploaded to Connect. So it takes a few extra steps, but it's neither difficult nor laborious...
I'm sorry guys, but I really need some help with this please. May have to be in some dummy steps. I'll try and break down what I want to do and why. (please be aware that I might have the wrong names for routes, course, tracks etc, so correct me as necessary.
I'm using an Edge810 (FW 3.24 Beta) and at the end of the day I'm trying to create a "course" from GC so segments show. My problem is that it's on a Mountain bike and over half of the ride is not on map so I can't create a Course from scratch within GC. (that I'm aware of) So here is my approach: 1. Use a previous ride that covers the intended route. The course I want to create is only part of a ride so needs editing. However I can't edit this within GC because it just makes straight lines and ends up totally rubbish. 2. Read the activity into BaseCamp and edit ride so it's the course I want * Now this is where I need help * 3a. What do I export out of Basecamp? 3b. Do I need to run it through JaVaWa? If so I need guidance as I've tried so many times and can't work out what I'm doing wrong 3c. Read file "****.???) made from BC (What format? gpx, tcx fit....? 3d. Export to ???? & Export as ???.*** 3e. repeat from what to what ? (is this necessary?) * And this bit I know and can do* 4. Import back into GC using the "Activities - Import" option 5. Create/convert to a course within GC with segments shown 6. Export/Send to device as a course
Now somewhere through my playing I did actually manged to get an edited file back into GC and convert to a course but it would not send to Device. I kept getting an error (Sorry I can't remember the exact wording) But I've manged to create other course totally with GC that I can send to device with segments etc.
Please feel free to suggest any other options. I haven't yet managed to remember to start and stop my computer exactly along the desired course only :(
Sorry for the big explanation. Any guidance would be hugely appreciated. Thank you in advance
3a. A gpx file with the track (that's what the activity is called in BaseCamp) 3b. I don't like the idea of running something through me ;) , but if you mean JaVaWa RTWtool, then the answer is yes. 3c. Load gpx in RTWtool (it supports a lot of different formats including gpx, gdb, tcx and fit) 3d. At "Export to" select "Course File (.tcx/.fit) and select "Courses" at "Export as". Uncheck "Add course points". Next click "Convert", but don't save the file! Cancel the file dialog and instead click on "Recycle" (this way the result of the conversion is used as the input of the next conversion. Saving/reloading files works also, but recycling is faster) 3e. Select "Export to" > "Garmin file (.gpx/.gdb)" and "Export as" > "Tracks" without additional modifications. Click "Convert"; this time you should save the result to a gpx file. This file can be loaded into Connect.
Hi JAVAWA, Firstly sorry about using your name instead of the RTWtool, secondly thanks heaps for your dummy steps. It was a hugs help. I have managed to get the edited tracks I want back into GC and convert them to Courses. However when I try and "Send to Device" which is my Edge810 I get an error (See attached image) If I create a course directly from an activity within GC I can send that to the Edge810 without any problems. Does anyone have any suggestion?
Garmin Connect won't import gpx or tcx files exported from Polar Flow
I read this thread (and others) and could not find a solution to importing about 60 runs and walks from Polar Flow from my Polar M400 watch (that ceased being waterproof) into Garmin Connect.
I exported all my runs and walks as both gpx and tcx files from Polar Flow. So far, a few of the gpx files come in ok. All tcx files and many gpx files just produce an error " An error occurred with your upload. Please try again."
I'm happy to try JaVaWa if the forum thinks that is the most robust approach. Having a general converter sounds like a reasonable idea anyway.
