Uploading multisport activity from old 310XT

Given the recent changes to Garmin Connect and how it displays multisport activities, I decided that I'd like to re-upload some of my past races. I had few problems importing activity files that were recorded with my 910XT, but all of the ones that I recorded with my 310XT came up with the legs all wonky.

Instead of being...

  • Swim
  • Transition 1
  • Bike
  • Transition 2
  • Run

they are all...

  • Other
  • Mountain Biking 1
  • Bike
  • Mountain Biking 2
  • Run

Here is an example... http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/605636408. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Perhaps I need to tweak the .fit file and re-upload it?

    hi Travis,

Can you attach one of the affected .fit files and I will see what I can see with the Fit File Repair Tool - I think I can change it to how you want it and how it is meant to be.

    cheers

I can change your activity types successfully but when I go to export the 'fixed' file, I am getting a null error. I'll message Mathias and get him to take a look at what is happening.

  • I was having some trouble with OneDrive. This link should get the file... [link].
  • So it appears that all multisport activities created on a 310XT with firmware prior to 3.7.0 are problematic for Garmin Connect. I'm not sure why, but that is the source of my problems.

    hi Travis,

We have progress - of sorts - with that particular file that you sent. Mathias has resolved the 'null' error and I can now successfully export it and also get it to upload to GC - pic.

I had a look at the file and found out the problem is the empty session 4.
I modified the Repair Tool and just uploaded version 5.19.17 which handles such empty sessions better.
I did a quick check with uploading the exported file to Garmin Connect. I noticed that in session 5 no GPS data is shown on the graph and don't know if this is related to the empty session 4 or an issue of Garmin Connect with multi sports files in general.

Now as I said, I have been able to upload the file to GC without any issues but I am having major issues trying to view it, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - it would appear that GC is possibly having a few issues

UPDATE - it just appears to be Multisport files that are causing the viewing issue - I can look at all my other ride files without any issues.

Anyways - here is the file.

Happy to assist if you want any more files resolved :D

    cheers

  • When I upload that file, I get an error message indicating that Some activities could not be created. It looks like T2 is missing, and what is supposed to be T1 is showing up as a bike ride of some sort.

Is it safe to assume that the changes are being integrated to the Fit File Repair Tool and that if I downloaded the software now I'd be able to avoid the problem you ran into?

    hi Travis,

I have a funny feeling that GC Modern is in the middle of throwing it's toys out of the cot, I have been having issues with it on and off all day

With that particular file that you sent me, there is an issue with your T2 insofar as something has gone wrong/gotten corrupted with the data values around that time and it is also throwing out the data in your run - I'm pretty sure you only did a 3 and a bit mile run and not a 17mile run.

I've just double checked and I have got the file set as swim - T1 - cycle - T2 - run as you can see in this pic. You'll also notice in the Dist. column the strange values that have crept in for sessions 4 and 5.

I would really like to run another file through FFRT if you have one available to confirm if this is a just a one off or not that is being caused by a dodgy file

    cheers
