Garmin 610 data not transferred and disappeared from my watch

Hello all,

I ran the Berlin Marathon last Sunday and all was fine with my watch, I stopped it at the finish like I do with any activity I do. I also cycled to and from work yesterday and today.

Last night I tried to sync my data and it all transferred fine but when I went to activities there was no record of my Berlin marathon run but my cycle yesterday transferred fine. The worse thing is it has deleted the record from my watch also. When I look at my weekly running activities on my watch the overall miles includes the ones from my marathon.

Has anyone ever had this before or know how to retrieve the data? This has never happened before and I wouldn't mind but wanted to view my marathon time and data.

Thanks all,
Luke
  • If my assumptions are correct, you will be able find the .fit file for your marathon on your computer. Here is why.

Both Garmin Express and the ANT Agent have an option that tells it to delete activity data from the watch once it has been downloaded to your computer. If you have that option enabled, and the file was downloaded from your watch, then it would be deleted from your 610. Once the file is on your computer, the software will try to upload it to Garmin Connect. If that fails, you won't see the data in Garmin Connect, but the file will remain on your computer. Depending on the what Garmin software and operating system your computer uses, the .fit file could be in a few different places. This support page describes where to find them if you are using the ANT Agent, and this support page describes where to find them if you are using Garmin Express. Note that the files you are looking for are somewhere inside the Garmin folder mentioned in those articles. You will need to look around a little bit.

If this is what happened, chances are good that your marathon file will be corrupt in some way. Often times this can be repaired by using the Fit File Repair Tool, and the resulting .fit file can be manually imported to Garmin Connect.

Thanks a lot for your message. I will try this and hopefully it will work.
