Training Plans, Forerunner 310xt, and syncing

I just purchased the forerunner, and I found a training plan that I wanted to try. It added to my calender on connect but will not sync with the device. So, I created mine own workout and clicked send to device, and it is not on the forerunner. This sure is a lot of work just to run........Please help!!!!!
