System Software Missing

Former Member

I own a Garmin Nuvi 205.

I had not updated my maps for years and attempted to do so today.
I use Windows 8.

After installing all new software (Garmin Express etc), I attempted to install updates to the software. As a result: my Garmin crashed big time:
- After the Garmin screen, the SYSTEM SOFTWARE MISSING message appears and nothing seems to overcome it.
- I tried resetting by pressing the right low corner: no good
- I tried following instructions from users with several problems: no avail. Specifically: I installed new drivers from the Garmin site (USB drivers 231.exe), I tried the various updaters with the .rng files (even a Polish one with the 2 "cures"), I tried various combinations of pressing the power button and starting the updater, but NOTHING WORKS. My Garmin is now useless and I am stuck. I know that this is an old and cheap navigator, but still, I need it fixed. I never installed any software or maps that did not come from Garmin and basically the crash happened when I was using the official Garmin sites.

Can anybody help please?

I will of course call Garmin support tomorrow and complain - ask for help.

Thanks in advance
