Garmin 405 - watch recorded false distance..but....

Ok i've using Garmin 405 for a couple years now, with relatively no issues but today's bike ride I rode my usual distance, that I've been riding forever and the watch says it's exactly 1 mile less than it should be. When i upload the file to connect, and "play" it back.....it plays back the correct distance. Viewing the history on the watch itself still says 17.01miles......garmin connect says 17.01.....when i play back the run it plays back through the correct distance of 18.01.

if i look at the laps, which on my settings are every mile, it only recorded 17 laps, and then the 0.01m on lap 18 - giving me 17.01 miles.

never seen this before, watch had 52% battery life and sometimes when it's a little lower and i unlock the watch, it'll reset. not sure if these issues are related. anyone have any ideas? gonna probably drive a little route later, with the watch recording and see what happens.

when in playback.....where it says your time on the left under the map, then distance to the right....
if you look at the bar, on the left bottom of the time bar has my actual time, on the right side it has a slightly lower time (around 4min).....same is true under the total distance bar. on the bottom left it has 18.01, and on the right it has 17.01

<------- here's the pic from the playback showing my actual time and mileage, vs what garmin is displaying in the dashboard.....what gives!?
  • Might have something to do with pausing the timer, auto pause or momentary loss of satellite lock or signal from speed sensor. But if it's only one time in ten, I wouldn't worry about it. If you get someone interested in this issue that can view the actual activity file from your device then maybe they could pinpoint where the drop out or issue occurred. If your fenix makes .fit files then you need special tools to view it such as the fitfilerepair tool. If it produces .gpx or .tcx files then you can view those with a text editor, however making sense of the data might take some thought if you have not dealt with that before. I wouldn't use a file exported from GC though as I believe they process the upload and only save the data pertinent to GC.

It's only a 5 percent error for that particular activity and if it's 1 out of 10 activities, then that'll be less than .5 percent error over all combined.
