Multiple Devices

I currently own a Vivofit and I am very happy with it. I am looking to get a gps watch. if I use my Vivofit for heart rate monitoring and the gps for... well gps, will I get double information (calories, distance, etc)? or will they be merged into one activity because they happen at the same time? I'm trying to pick one and looking at different options.

If I got the FR15 (which has an activity tracker) can I turn off the tracker part so it doesn't interfere with the Vivofit information and just use it as a gps. I do not want to replace the Vivofit.

I'm really just looking at options. In particular using 2 devices with Connect.

Thanks in advance!!
  • Generally, when you have two devices recording at the same time, you get two activities. If I take my Fenix and Edge 800 along on the same ride, I get two tracks and have to delete one. I've seen talk about them doing something like ignoring the data from a lower quality device (Vivofit) when higher quality data is available, but I don't know whether that's been implemented yet.

Not sure whether you can turn the tracker on the FR 15 off or not, but why would you get one if the tracker isn't important to you? Garmin (and others) sell other GPS watches without activity tracking.

You can turn off activity tracking with the FR15. I know Garmin has been working on merging activities from two devices, but I haven't tried the vivofit/FR15 combo myself. I just let the Fr15 do it all and "retired" the vivofit from my account.

BTW, when you set up the FR15, it will ask you if the vivofit or FR15 should be used as your activity tracker, so I'd guess things will get merged correctly.

    Thanks!!

The FR15 is too bulky for me for everyday wear, but I like its gps functions. If I can turn off the tracker then it might be an option.
