Bug in Garmin Connect Dashboard

I did a modest 2.5Km ride, uploaded with Garmin Connect and then tried to see how far it was in miles instead of kilometres. I did this by selecting 'full edit' to display the data then selecting miles instead of kilometres. The conversion did not seem to work so I tried a few more times - saving each time. The data now shows I did the trip at 111K/hour! The more I try to convert to miles the greater the distance I travel in the same time! See attached screen grab.

  • You aren't actually doing what you think you are doing. When you click Edit Activity, you are actually editing the activity data. If Garmin Connect said your ride was 20km, but you actually rode 21km, you would change the distance value to 21 and leave the units as km. This allows you to change information about the activity if it wasn't recorded correctly for some reason.

When you edited the activity, it said the activity distance was 2.5 km, and you changed it to 2.5 mi (4.02 km). Every time you changed the unit from metric to imperial, you essentially told Garmin Connect that the ride was 1.608 times longer than the previously stored value. Eventually you get a large distance value in a short time period, which boils out to a large average speed.

If you want to see what your data looks like using a different measurement system, you need to stop editing your activities and instead change your Measurement Units setting on the settings page.

Well how do you edit if you want to cut out the waiting time on a ride?
imho this software is not user friendly at all, it look cool, but the new views do not even allow you, like with the classic view to see your activities and data in one sheet. I still havent figured out what the exact button sequence is to see ONE, activity, with a map, and some dat fields where I can press that handy average button. any hints someone can give me?
  • I'm sorry, but it isn't clear to me exactly what you are trying to do. Your activity is displaying in metric units. If you want your activity to display in imperial units, you need to go to the settings page and change the display setting. If you want to display using metric units, but you want to enter your ride distance in imperial units, then you have to change both the distance and the measurement unit before clicking Save. i.e., if Garmin Connect reports that you rode 2.5 km, but you actually rode 3 km, then you need to edit the activity and change the distance. If you actually rode 3 miles, then you need to change the value to 3 and the unit to miles.

If you want to change the time for an activity, none of this units stuff comes into play. You just edit the activity and change the time.

As far as I can tell, nearly every screen you can get to in the classic Garmin Connect, you can get to in modern. If you want to get to the activity list, click the three horizontal bars icon on the left, and then click the word Activities. Once you're there, if you want to get to the activity details for a given activity, click the activity title.
