Unable to connect to Garmin

Hi, some assistance please...

I have today opened up my Edge 200 and then tried to register and link it up to see the layout.
But when i had to connect it so it recognised the device it would not.
i had attempted to run the Garmin Express, that was a non starter, message appeared saying that it failed to install.
So i have turned to the forums and here i found the links to microsoft.net, which i had tried, which seemed ok then said it could not rectify some of the issues (unknown what they were).
So then i registered it and it said i had to install the Garmin Communicator, worked untill the last minute, then it turns out that i can't use it due to only having XP 2 rather than the XP3 minimum.
Also the Garmin Express was now also showing a blank dialogue box when it gave me the red cross.
.
Soooo, would i be right in saying now that due to this i am unable to use Garmin Connect at all (unless i buy a new laptop - not going to happen ) such a mare and does take the tarnish off buying the product when i can't even use it to anywhere near its capacity.

any ideas / assistance would be appreciated
Thanks, Dave
