Updated: Are you having issues uploading to Garmin Connect?

8/26 3pm CST Update:

The original issue of not being able to upload activities that started late on 08/25 was fixed around 8am CST on 08/26. The issue however remains for many of you not being able to upload activities that you attempted to upload when our site was down. We believe this is due to the fact that Garmin Connect detects what it thinks are activities that it had previously uploaded successfully when the system was broken. Many of you are mentioning that when you currently sync, things appear to work as intended short of seeing your recent activities in Garmin Connect. To correct this issue the only solution is to manually upload any activity that will not currently upload to Garmin Connect. To do this please follow these steps:

  • Log into your Garmin Connect account
  • Connect your device to the computer via USB (devices that transfer via ANT will need to skip this step)
  • From Modern View go to your activity history
  • From the Activities screen click "Import" from the left hand side of the screen
  • From the pop up window click "Browse" and locate the activity file that you want to upload to Garmin Connect (ANT device users please read the following FAQ which will provide the location of where your activity files are stored on your computer: Why are my activities files not being stored on my computer once I have uploaded them to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express?
  • Once the file is located click the "Upload activities from file" button

The pop up window should then indicate whether or not the file uploaded successfully.

Another easy way to quickly tell if the issue described in the first paragraph is the problem is to create a short activity on your device and then try and upload it. We believe that file will upload successfully. If you still cannot upload your activities please post a reply to this thread using the template outlined below.

  • When did you last try to upload your data?
  • What method did you use? Garmin Express? Garmin Connect Mobile?
  • What device are you uploading your data from?
  • Are you getting any type of error message when you are uploading? If so what does the error message say?
  • What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error?
  • What is your Garmin Connect username? (likely the same as your forum username but please note if otherwise)

To wrap up on behalf of Garmin we would like to extend a sincere apology for any inconvenience anyone has experienced as a result of not being able to upload their data to Garmin Connect.

Looks like everything is working again. How do we recover the activities? When I sync'd with my Vivofit, the heart rate data did not push over.
  • @DMATEUF: You might not have lost the file. Try looking under ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/UnitID/PendingSyncUploads/Activities. That's where I found the latest activity that (unusually) didn't upload to GC when I "synced" my device today (I manually uploaded the file instead). I hopes this helps.

When did you last try to upload your data? Upload has always worked! (I did not notice any error message on the 26th)
What method did you use? Garmin Express? Garmin Connect Mobile? Forerunner 620 Wifi upload
What device are you uploading your data from? Forerunner 620
Are you getting any type of error message when you are uploading? If so what does the error message say? Did not get any error message. The acitivity just uploaded but now is nowhere to be found.
What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error? I can not upload it manually since the activity is no longer on the device!!!!
What is your Garmin Connect username? frepe383

I hope you are able to recover the missing data.
  • @ALLISON: Try copying the file with a new name (e.g. test.FIT), making sure that it has the .FIT extension. I got the same error as you when trying to upload an activity and noticed that when I copied the file to the desktop the .FIT extension didn't show up. So I renamed the file to test.FIT (although I probably could've just added the .FIT extension) and then uploading worked.
  • I see this error now..

Upload is working again (finally, after 2 days of errors and radio silence from Garmin), but today if I try to access any individual workouts, I get an error. If I refresh, I get a long list of database errors.

I appreciate that you say that you are going to work on Communication, but that's a little hard to believe when multiple threads, tweets, Facebook posts go unanswered and unacknowledged, and today, there are new issues, and absolutely no announcements about the issues or what (if anything) is being done to fix them. You need to tell us more than you're working on communication in a single post in a thread. You need to actually improve your communication and customer service.
  • Same error for me (Fenix2) and my wife (FR15) as MARTIN.J.D1

    Garmin Connect

    Hi
I am also having the same problem. When I sync my Garmin 910XT to Garmin Express it won't upload my workouts. This has only been for the past two days. However since this new Garmin Express, I can't view my workouts online on Garmin Connect. It tells me to go to view data on Garmin Connect. So I click that and it sends me to connect.garmin.com/modern. Then everything there is just blank. Just a blue screen. very frustrating as I have no idea how I am doing. Please let me know how to fix this asap.
    Thanks.

Same issue as above... I can upload just fine. But I cannot see the details of my run. I've recently switched from just using Runkeeper and my iPhone and I really am starting to wonder why. I find my Fenix 2 is less accurate, garmin software is horrible in general (very buggy from uploads to bluetooth connectivity) and support is sub-par at best. I do like all of the info it gives me and some of the customizations though. I just am not sure it is worth it for all of the consistent issues and bugs.

    Maybe time to switch back...
