Updated: Are you having issues uploading to Garmin Connect?

8/26 3pm CST Update:

The original issue of not being able to upload activities that started late on 08/25 was fixed around 8am CST on 08/26. The issue however remains for many of you not being able to upload activities that you attempted to upload when our site was down. We believe this is due to the fact that Garmin Connect detects what it thinks are activities that it had previously uploaded successfully when the system was broken. Many of you are mentioning that when you currently sync, things appear to work as intended short of seeing your recent activities in Garmin Connect. To correct this issue the only solution is to manually upload any activity that will not currently upload to Garmin Connect. To do this please follow these steps:

  • Log into your Garmin Connect account
  • Connect your device to the computer via USB (devices that transfer via ANT will need to skip this step)
  • From Modern View go to your activity history
  • From the Activities screen click "Import" from the left hand side of the screen
  • From the pop up window click "Browse" and locate the activity file that you want to upload to Garmin Connect (ANT device users please read the following FAQ which will provide the location of where your activity files are stored on your computer: Why are my activities files not being stored on my computer once I have uploaded them to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express?
  • Once the file is located click the "Upload activities from file" button


The pop up window should then indicate whether or not the file uploaded successfully.

Another easy way to quickly tell if the issue described in the first paragraph is the problem is to create a short activity on your device and then try and upload it. We believe that file will upload successfully. If you still cannot upload your activities please post a reply to this thread using the template outlined below.

  • When did you last try to upload your data?
  • What method did you use? Garmin Express? Garmin Connect Mobile?
  • What device are you uploading your data from?
  • Are you getting any type of error message when you are uploading? If so what does the error message say?
  • What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error?
  • What is your Garmin Connect username? (likely the same as your forum username but please note if otherwise)


To wrap up on behalf of Garmin we would like to extend a sincere apology for any inconvenience anyone has experienced as a result of not being able to upload their data to Garmin Connect.

    When: 26th Tuesday at 11.30 am CET
    What: Garmin connect mobile
    Device: fenix 2
    No error message, says it has synced correctly (but suspiciously quickly). However activity is not visible in GC. It is still visible on history of watch but won't sync again

    At 11.30am it was also not possible to create activity manually.
    Now at 22:45 / 10.45pm new activity seems To sync ok but old activity won't sync although still visible on the watch activity history
  • Problem to send session by calendar

    I try to transfer yesterday at 9 pm and today (2014.08.26) at 10.15 pm. I do this by garmin connect web in classic version and also in modern version: in classic version I found device (forerunner 620) and I send successfully the activity on calendar. When I go on forerunner 620 I don't find any activity and I've a message that say me to sync calendar with forerunner. My admin name is banaxone. Please work hard to fix this bug because I use every day calendar pianistic action to send session activity on my device. Thanks a lot. Best regards.
  • It now seems that new activities will upload, but I've still lost my workout from last night. Is there a way to force my 620 to resend this workout? Any other way I can get it onto GC?

    What method did you use? Garmin Express? Garmin Connect Mobile? ANT+
    What device are you uploading your data from? Forerunner 405
    Are you getting any type of error message when you are uploading? If so what does the error message say? No Error message
    What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error? Unfortunately the data was erased from the Forerunner after i uploaded it, as set in the preferences
    What is your Garmin Connect username? (likely the same as your forum username but please note if otherwise) as per forum name

    THe problem is that i had set my preferences on the ANT to delete the activity after it had up-loaded. It up-loaded fine and said it was there for me to view. But when i clicked on it isnt there. I'm very keen to retrieve the data and it obviously uploaded fine but can you get it back for me?

  • For those that continue to reply please make sure you are attempting to upload manually using the steps in the original post above.

    Step #5 has a link that provides instructions to find the file that should reside on your computer. Granted the file is gone from your watch but I believe it should still be on your computer where you could still manually upload it.

    This "fix' doesn't appear to be working - last night's run is still not being recorded on GC.

    630 am singapore time 27 August - i tried the above method - but could not locate the garmin connect subdirectory
    Used both ant+ as well as wi fi transfer
    Garmin forerunner 620
    it says sync complete or no new data to transfer

    I did a ride with my 310xt yesterday that won't upload to Garmin Connect. It did upload the ride to Strava though (through GC) but isn't showing up on the GC activities. I just tried a new workout and it uploaded ok to GC, but yesterdays isn't uploading, even though it shows in the history on the 310xt. Garmin Express also said 2 items synced but only the new one is on the activity list.

    Are you getting any type of error message when you are uploading? If so what does the error message say? NO, it says 1 item synced but the activity doesn't show on GC.
    What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error? Can't upload manually as no recent workouts are listed to upload, only old ones from May and June.
    What is your Garmin Connect username? (likely the same as your forum username but please note if otherwise) rexjamo

    I can't upload the ride to WKO+ either as the tcx files from recent workouts are not listed, only old workouts from June.

    What happens when you attempt to upload the file manually? Do you get a success message or an error? I had the setup to automathically delete the file. Obviously it is not on the Fenix 2. I tried point #5 and on my mac OSX 10.7.5 the file is not there either. I have a different root access than this ~user/Library2/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect/UnitID/Upload (for me it is ony garmin express and there is no file in there.)

    i am affraid i lost this morning run file forever (my first run on the Fenix 2 indeed!)

  • I replied to this thread earlier but now I see that my post is missing. When you say that you have technicians working on it and if we post our reply, it will be looked into, I kind of expect for it to be looked into, not removed when you update your instructions. I don't think that is unreasonable. :(

There is no ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect/[unit]/Upload directory and the Pending Uploads directory is empty. Why? Well, because it was uploaded. You'll have to tell me why it is displaying in Strava but not Garmin Connect. Clearly it was uploaded.

    ETA: I was finally able to located it the file on the other computer that I uploaded it from and I was able to successfully upload the .fit.

    I still do not appreciate having my comments removed when you updated the thread. I think that was both rude and unprofessional.
