Chart time increments
Former Member
My chart time increments go from 4 to 24 minutes per mile which make a run look like a straight line across the chart. Can I change the time increments to say 6 to 8 minutes?
People complain about this often, but in looking at all my activities, I don't see that the graph is doing anything wrong. If you don't like what you see on a graph, you can always click and drag to select an area of the graph that you'd like to see more closely.
You select the of the graph that you are interested in. i.e., if you are looking at pace/speed graph of an activity, left-click on the graph and hold the left mouse button down. Now move your mouse pointer and you will see a grey selection rectangle follow the cursor from the point you clicked. When you release the left mouse button, the graph will be redrawn such that the area that was under the grey selection rectangle fills the entire graph.
I don't know what else you are looking for. This doesn't provide a way to change the default min/max values, it is just a way to allow you to focus in on the data up close.
Anyway, I can see what the OP is saying. Because the graph shows pace, and most runs typically involve stopping at some point, the range of values is relatively large; 0 mph (speed) = one mile per infinite number of minutes (pace). Thus the relatively small variation in speed when actually moving ends up as a straight line.
If there was an option to plot speed instead of pace, the range of values would be a lot smaller eg. 0 to 15 (mph) at most, and variations in that speed would be seen in the graph without having to zoom in.
Having said that, the pace recording of my FR305 goes all over the place and is pretty much worthless :)
Must be another browser issue. Works fine for me with Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Just tried it with IE - don't even get the grey area when clicking/dragging. When you say browser 'problem', you mean there's some setting that needs to be enabled/disabled? I'm not convinced it's a bug.
Another thing - what are the diagonal arrows for in the top right hand corner of the graphs? The cursor changes to a finger when hovering over them, implying something should happen when I click on them, but it doesn't.
Some browsers exhibit weird problems. Selecting drop down boxes hides other drop down with Firefox is the big one that comes to mind. I know there are others, I just can't think of them at the moment. I'm not saying it is a browser bug, it is just some sort of interaction between Garmin Connect and the browser. Technically the folks at Garmin should be working around these issues, but if they can't reproduce them (like I can't reproduce the problem you are having), then it makes finding and fixing the problem that much more difficult.
The diagonal arrows make a larger map view appear. In modern Garmin Connect, you'll have to scroll up to see it though.
