Stop/Resume timer

I have a Garmin 10 and primarily use it for the timer, pace, and distance. I wore it this weekend and stopped it when I took 30 minute breaks, but I can't figure out how to resume it after it's been stopped for a while. I had to start a new time after my 30 minute break. Does anyone know how and/or if you can resume a time after it's been stopped for 30 minutes to 1 hour? Or do you have to start a new time?
