What do all these colors on the map represent ??? PLEASE provide a Helpful reference , or possibly a Legend on your map (or Connect site if you plan to reply with the "it's a Google thing, not my problem)...like every other map does, please...give a legend to help me understand what all these refers to. OR, for bonus awesome sauce...a mouse hover over feature on each color that would explain to the user what condition or type of road this is. AND, a useful easy to find help FAQ reference for allll of the same info might be nice ? :)

  • For the most part the colors you see on a map are whatever is used by the map provider. i.e., when using Google as the map provider, dark orange is an interstate, light orange is a highway, grey or white is a surface street. The colors used by other map providers can vary.

If you look at the map options, which can be seen by clicking the little layers button at the right of the map buttons, you have the ability to enable and disable layers on the map. When using Google as the map provider, you should see one layer is the heat map, and another layer is the bicycle layer.

The colors that you are seeing are from the heat map. The heat map illustrates how frequently a route is used for Garmin Connect activities; colder colors are routes that are used less frequently and hotter colors for those used more frequently.

I should have mentioned, I do not use Google for anything, Bing is far superior, so I am not familiar with any Google maps features. Garmin should publish helpful content for users to understand what these colors represent. Every other map in the world has a legend for things like this. If Garmin is going to outsource all their mapping work to a 3rd party, then they should at the very least document the map features someplace. I'm still waiting to hear from someone at Garmin as to what all of these green dots, green lines, and the other colors represent. I'm not alone either.....the forums are full of other users asking the same question.
  • If you're waiting for a Garmin employee to respond to this thread, you'll be waiting for a very long time.
