Issues with my Garmin 610

Hi,

First time poster. For some reason, the latest activity saved on my watch in the "Activities" screen is 5-Jun-2013. That's over a year ago, and I've run probably hundreds of times since. I can no longer run, save the run, and immediately see info about it. The "Totals" screen, however, correctly reflects my recent weekly and monthly mileage.

I guess that's never really bothered me (too much) because I can still upload my runs to Garmin Connect and see the info there. But now my Garmin watch is not uploading. I'm using the USB ANT stick. I've tried to re-install the software but no dice.

Any advise appreciated.

  • You should look in the ANT Agent device folder for the .fit files for your recent activities. If they are there, there is a chance that the data was downloaded from the device but didn't upload to Garmin Connect. You can manually import/upload these files to Garmin Connect via the Import link in modern or Upload button in classic.

    I think that I'd do a master reset of the device before using it again. This will wipe out all of the data on the watch and set it back to its original factory settings, so you will probably have to spend an hour or two tweaking your settings to get it back the way you want. You'll also have to pair the device with the ANT Agent again.

    Thanks for the email. I will try the master reset at some point. But first, I need to download about a month's worth of activity. The data has not been downloaded from my device, it won't download. My laptop used to have an icon for the ANT stick. It looked like "mickey ears", for lack of a better description, and would go from just an outline to filled up with black color, whenever I plugged it in. So I guess my question is basic: How do I reinstall / restart / whatever / the ANT agent?
  • Did you look to see if you have the fit files in the device folder as I described above? Were they there already?

    It sounds as though the ANT Agent either isn't running or has been uninstalled. If you go the the Add/Remove Programs control panel (or Programs and Features, depending on which version of windows you are using) you should be able to look through the installed programs list and see if Garmin Express or the ANT Agent are in that list. I'm guessing that Garmin Express is there and the ANT Agent isn't. If this is the case, you are at a bit of a crossroads.

    You can try to get Garmin Express working, or you can uninstall it then download and install the ANT Agent.

    Frustrating, I replied to this thread about a month ago and Garmin managed to delete that. Must have cursed or something. Oh well, can't find the .fit files. Getting ready to throw this POS out.
  • I don't think Garmin deleted your post. There was an outage a few weeks ago and the forums lost a few days worth of data. There is a pretty good chance your post was lost during the outage.

    Did you check to see if the Garmin Express and the ANT Agent are installed? If so, which ones?

    Hi Travis. Great news, was able to install Garmin Express and the ANT Agent is working. Bad news, it only uploaded my last 4 runs. There must be several weeks worth of runs stuck somewhere in between. I cannot locate the .fit files anywhere on my PC. I've tried searching and cannot locate them. I have Windows 7 and they don't seem to be in the folder as discussed:

    Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8

    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devices\Unit ID folder\History1

    Actually, cannot even locate such a folder. Any chance those instructions are dated? Or, tips on locating the .fit files when the folders as labeled are not there?

    Oh happy days, I think I found the roaming folder. Joy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks Travis. Now, about that device reset again? Pros / Cons? Am I out of the woods since I have Garmin Express working? Or do the device reset since I can't see the runs on the watch after I save them?

    Also I'm missing a pocket of activities from Aug 21 to Sep 17. Not in my history or activities folder. Weren't captured today when I somehow got Garmin Express to work again. Wonder if these runs will be lost forever : (

    Still, better than missing months worth of runs.

    Ive got an issue with the 610, ive just started downloading data to strava this week, but suddenly 2 days ago the 3 buttons have become unresponsive, I can use the touchscreen but I can not start a run as the start/stop button doesn't work..i cant even turn it off and on again...can someone help...!!!
