How to create a course based on a lap rather than the entire activity?

I rode three different mountain bike loops yesterday and hit the lap button when I started each one. I'd like to create a curse for each loop as opposed to the whole ride. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

Certainly, but not with Garmin Connect.

You need to use other software like BaseCamp or Fit File Repair Tool to make single tracks from each Lap and convert each to a course.

Post a copy of your file to another post here and someone will make your 3 courses and then you could use them as a check on your efforts doing it yourself.
  • You could just create a course from the entire activity and then edit the course to remove the unneeded section. If you mouse over the path, you should see a white dot appear. Click the dot and it will add another point to the path. You can use this to create points at the start and end of the path section you are creating a course for. Now you can right-click the other points and delete them.
  • Thanks guys. It may be easier just to do the ride again as 3 separate activities. My route map looks like spaghetti, and it would probably be a pain to edit using either of those methods.

You'd think they'd have built in creating a course based on your splits into Connect.
  • Hi, there is a very quick, simple way to create courses from laps, using Garmin Training Center.
So, check out the panel on the left, with "My Activities", select the Activity from where you want to convert one lap to a course, press right mouse button on it and export the activity to a file.
Then, from the File menu, select "Import to current user account" and select "History", pick the file you just exported from the step above, it will import this activity in a different Folder, called "Imported activities" (this whole procedure is basically to create a copy of your activity and keep the original intact, while working on the copy).
At this point, just delete the laps you dont want, keep just the one you want to convert to a course, then it's easy, just convert the activity to a course, done.
    Easy and simple.
