Bike activities not giving calorie estimate

I'm very new to the GC setup (I got my vivofit Aug 12th) so I might be missing something obvious. I add my treadmill walks and the calories section auto-fills fine, but the same is not true when I try to add my recumbent bike activities. For some reason it never puts in a calorie amount even though it knows enough to gauge my average speed.

Am I missing something? I actually hope so because 1/2 my workouts are with my bike and I really need a proper calorie estimate.
  • The vivofit forum would be a much better place to ask this. If you feel you might have a warranty issue, then you need to get with Garmin Support asap.

Don't put too much stock in Calorie estimate from any device outside a well equipped laboratory. Some devices do slightly better at times than others, but over the course of a years data, I doubt that they'd be much more accurate than just using the old time and distance formulas we used to use before these devices came out.

It has nothing to do with the vivofit from what I can tell, just the Garmin Connect site/app hence I posted here.
  • For most of the Garmin devices I'm familiar with, the Calorie count comes from the device and is put in the file the device creates--AFIK of course. So if that's the case for the vivofit, then it might be that it's not putting that info in the upload file for some reason, therefore those familiar with the vivofit might know a fix or workaround.

I suppose Garmin Connect might figure Calorie burns from the other information in the upload file, but if it does, I was not aware of that. So if that's the case, maybe someone here may have a suggestion.

If you don't find out a solution soon, then get hold of Garmin Support.
