Why is "Total Calories" so high and what does it mean then?

I'm using the excellent Forerunner 220 and the vivofit tracker. I also track my food via MyFitnessPal and have Garmin Connect set up to integrate with MyFitnessPal. So far, so good.

Now, if you take a look at my Calories In/Out View in Garmin Connect, why does it show 2.157 total calories in the upper half? Interestingly, the second calculation (1.094 remaining at a daily goal of 1.450) does look correct. But what does the 2.157 calories in the upper part exactly mean? Any idea?

Looking forward to your responses.
