Garmin Connect sync problem

Now that we have Garmin Express und GC as the latest tools to keep track of our (valuable) training data I found that my FR15 activities aren't successfully uploaded when connecting the FR15 to my computer. And then there is no manual upload possible as in the old version of GC.

When connecting the FR15 yesterday Garmin Express steps into and telling me that there is an update available AND that there are three activities to synchronize. It reports also a success and asks me to switch to GC. When following this link nothing happens. I could check and figure out that during that time GC was offline for maintenance.
But now Garmin Express won't upload my activities again (since it reports a successful upload) and GC didn't show me the activities.

In an earlier (older) version of GC I could upload a training manually and I would like to see such a feature again in the new version of GC.

ps. Sure I know I can switch to classic temporarily, but I assume this won't last forever (hence temporarily)

Given the problem description, it sounds like your activities are uploading to some other account. Many people have complained about similar problems, and it sounds like the problem is that they somehow managed to create a second account that is associated with their e-mail address. You may need to contact Garmin support to get this worked out, but I'd try this first...

    • Open up a web browser to Garmin Connect.
    • Verify that you can see your activities by clicking the three horizontal lines icon in the button bar on the left edge of your screen, and then clicking the word Activities from the slide-out.
    • Click the head-and-shoulders icon on the button bar at the left edge of your screen, then click your name at the top of the slide-out.
    • Note your user name in the page url in your browsers address bar. The address bar should display something like http://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/uhebeisen. Just take note of the last part of the url. This is your Garmin Connect user name.
    • Click the head-and-shoulders icon on the button bar at the left edge of your screen, then click your Sign Out from the bottom of the slide-out.
    • Click the Sign In link near the top edge of your screen toward the right.
    • Sign in to Garmin Connect. Pay attention to use the user name from step 4 and your normal password.
    • Verify again that you can see your activities by clicking the three horizontal lines icon in the button bar on the left edge of your screen, and then clicking the word Activities from the slide-out.
    • Assuming everything is good so far, open up Garmin Express.
    • Select your device from the dropdown box on the left.
    • Click the Device link on the right edge of the Garmin Express window.
    • Scroll down to the Garmin Connect Account section.
    • Click the Change Account button.
    • Sign in with your user name and password you used in step 7. Pay attention to use the user name from step 4 and your normal password.
    • Create a dummy activity on your FR15 (start timer, let it run for a little while, stop timer, save activity).
    • Click the Updates link in Garmin Connect, and then click the Sync Now button. Garmin Express should upload your activity.
    • Go back to your web browser and go to the activities page. You should see your new activity.

And then there is no manual upload possible as in the old version of GC.

The manual upload button doesn't exist, but there is an Import link on the activities page that offers similar functionality. You have to browse for the file you want to upload (and you need to know where to look), but the basic functionality is there.
  • thanks for your answer. I will follow your advice to contact Garmin if this happens again. But since then I have successfully uploaded my activities therefore I assume that the Garmin Connect website was put into service mode after Garmin Express started ist sync and wasn't finished.

And yes you are right there is still the possibility to do an upload manually FIT files are supported in the import function.
  • Garmin support acknowledge a problem with sync'ing FR15 to garmin connect. Activities (running, workouts) are okay, and you can sync anytime, but not the daily step and sleep info, these must be sync'ed on the same day as they occur. The daily step and sleep info cannot be uploaded manually - they are not "activities". The support people advise

"Please be advised that we are aware of this issue with the Forerunner 15.
Our designated teams are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible.
For the time being, please sync your data and steps everyday at the end of the day, so you wouldn't lose data.

    Please accept our sincerest apologies."

This is a regression, it worked fine until about two weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing the info you got from Garmin. Since on my end everything about my GC data is fine before I updated my unit's software to 2.40, I researched if there's any way for me to rollback my software to the prior version which is 2.20. Unfortunately there's no way to do that to the Forerunner unless the s/w is going to be pushed by Garmin through Garmin Express.

    Hi,

I had the same problem and I think that I have managed to fix it (I hope so at least :) ). I did the following workaround:

    - I connected the FR15 to the PC
    - I opened from explorer the following folder GARMIN/MONITOR
    - I realized that when everything worked fine, the watch created one .FIT file per day either at 0:00 or whenever I synchronized the watch. However, the watch had stopped creating new files. Instead of that there was only one file corresponding to the current day.
    - I deleted all the .FIT files except the latest one (the one corresponding to the current date) and voila, everything ok again

I don't know if there is a problem related to the number of files the device can manage in that folder or if it should have deleted them automatically.
Anyway, as I said, this worked for me and I hope it does the same for you.
  • Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, deleted all but the latest fit file... No success. Deleted all fit files, and did a further factory reset of the device. No joy.

    See this other thread.
  • I am having a similar "Garmin Connect sync problem".

I hadn't used my Forerunner 405 in a while but I brought it on my honeymoon to record some once in a lifetime hikes. I recorded 2 tracks that I will never again walk because I am several thousand miles away from home. The memory of these hikes will stay with my forever but it would be nice if the Garmin data could too.

When I attempted to sync these activities, I realized that the software on my laptop was the old ANT software. I could be wrong but I believe the device synced the activities with ANT before I realized that ANT wouldn't sync with Connect. So then I discover that in order to get the data to Connect, I had to update to Express.

Express needed to uninstall ANT. Now at this point, if there was a warning about data loss, I missed it. What could I have done to save this data anyway? Why wouldn't Garmin try to save these data for me? In any case, the Express installation process seems to have also "uninstalled" the most recent tracks that I had recorded. They aren't on my device either which I am guessing is a result of having to manually pair with Express?

Is there anyway these tracks are hidden somewhere? I checked ProgramData/Garmin, but the only files there seem to be the new Garmin Express files. If my suspicion is right, I am pretty unhappy about an "update" deleting track data. There was no warning about losing data at any step in this process. I could only assume that it would have either been uploaded to Connect (why this isn't supported is beyond me), remained on the device itself, or remained on the laptop itself. Now my device history is empty and I cannot find any Garmin data on my laptop. I am hoping that I am just looking in the wrong place.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.
