Help repairing a corrupted file?

Former Member

Hi,

I matched a PR yesterday on a training ride for an epic hill climb in Utah (Snowbird hill climb) and am dying to compare splits to my previous PR. Only my file got corrupted and Strava uploaded only a truncated version. I see that people have often been kind enough to repair files posted on this forum. Anyone have a minute to help me repair this one?

I also see on this forum that there's a tool for repairing corrupted files, but it looks like it requires Windows (which I don't have easy access to).

Thanks much for any help!!

- Helen

Truncated ride on Strava:
- Reported as 8.1 miles
- Actual ride should be about 12-13 miles
- Would be happy to get first 10 miles restored

    hi Helen,

Fit File Repair Tool reported that your session ended abruptly as can be seen in this pic and that data records at the end of the recording are probably missing. In your case this has meant that your total distance isn't correct and that there are only 8.13miles worth of data values recorded in the .fit file.

I've seen this on a number of occasions when people have pressed the stop button and then powered down their unit (or just simply, because they are using Auto Pause, powered their unit down), instead of pressing stop, followed by pressing and holding the lap/reset button for 5secs which ensures that all the data values are properly recorded to the .fit file and then powering down their unit. If you did that then sorry but I am not sure what has happened.

    cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike

Oh well. But thanks for trying - I appreciate it!

I know the Garmin was running for the whole ride because I saw my splits until the end of the ride. But it's true that I don't always use Reset (though I will from now on). But this is the first time I've got a corrupt file as a result.

    Thanks again,
