Avg HR in modern vs Classic

I will explain this with an example in Modern I have 3 rides in the last 7 days. One of 5 miles with avg HR of only 85, the 2nd ride of 45 miles with an avg HR of 125, and the 3rd of 32 miles with an avg HR of 118. In modern it is telling me my avg HR for the last 7 days was 109. Giving equal weight to all 3 rides even though the 85 HR was only a 5 mile ride.

In Classic it appears the rides are weighted to total time, thus giving a larger input on the 2 longer rides as it should be. In Classic the HR average is 121. That seems more like reality. Does any body else notice this discrepancy between Modern and Classic?
  • The only things that matter are the duration and heart rate during those activities. Assuming you rode about the same pace for each ride, the average should be about 120. If you averaged 3mph for the 5mi ride, and 20mph for the others, you could have an actual average near 108.

I'm guessing that Garmin is applying the simple average as they would with a distance or time calculation, which obviously won't work for heart rate.
